Title: 916AT SUrface
Post by: buried7pin on January 02, 2011, 02:09:56 AM
I need to get my 916AT back to oob surface, can I just buy a 4000 grit pad and get back to oob?

OOB for the 916AT is 2000 abralon.

Sure. Depending on what you have done to it...to get it back to OOB surface I'd follow Track's
Finish 500/1000/2000/2000 ABRALON® to get the exact or close to exact OOB surface. If you haven't done ,much to it say adding a non-abrasive polish like Powerhouse Factory Finish you could just hand scuff with a 2000 abralon pad. I find hand application of abralon to be better than spinner applied in that the rpm's of various spinners can add a finer abrasive quality to the surface.
Steve Richter said in a RotoGrip thread that according to a Storm/Kegel clinic done last spring that the surface roughness is cut in half after 7 games so a quick touch up makes sense. I'd have to agree with Steve from what I see...of course YMMV with types of lanes bowled on and amount of lane conditioner, etc.

I haven't done anything to the ball. I left it at oob when it was drilled but it has gotten really shiny.
Thanks for your reply.

Do read Steve Richter's response in the RG thread about the Storm/Kegel clinic's. Ball pick up lane shine with use and should be hand scuffed with abralon pads to retain performance. I'd definietly agree with Steve on this. Cell, VG, Invasion, Mutant Cell all show this pick up of lane shine. That maybe because of Storm/Rg's type of resin used in their formulation's I have to say I don't see this as much in my 920T that I keep at 2000 abralon. But I do hand apply a quick going over by hand of a 2000 abralon pad every third time I use in league if I use the 920T a lot. Id' say the same if you use the 916AT a lot. I also clean with the new formulation of solvent based Neo-Tac/Big B Hook-It (after bowling) and that takes off lane shine better than water based ball cleaners. But, I still think the Ra peaks and valley's are effected by usage.
