916AT vs. Mission
« on: January 05, 2011, 06:13:40 AM »
I am contemplating getting the 916AT to battle the slicker conditions of the White pattern.  The Mission is working well but I would like to open up the lane a bit more.  Has anyone compared these balls side by side?  Is the 916 a few boards stronger?  Any information would greatly help!  Thanks!

I have thrown both and we are talking different worlds in terms of hook. On a house shot they might only be 5 or 7 boards apart, but throw the 916 on a real sport shot with some length and that 5 or 7 boards turns into 10 or 11 boards more of hook real quick. Now that I've been able to spend some time with the 916, what makes the ball really amazing is that it hooks just as much as the 715T while still remaining angular in the backend.

If I still had my Mission I can definitely say that the 916AT will be earlier in the midlane and more angular in the backend. The 916AT is a very good ball to start the first game with, it's just a matter of how strong you drill it and whether you want to keep the OOB finish or maybe take it down to 1000 grit to handle more oil.

Building on this response, as it pertains to the preferred surface on the 916, it will all depend on how you want to play the lanes. In reality if you play the lanes correctly and start playing the fresh fairly straight on heavier oil you can stay with the ball longer at its box finish. I would just make sure that before bowling on the heavy do a quick refresher job with a 2000 pad, and then just enjoy your night of bowling.

However, as a preface to this comments, I have no idea of your game in terms of stats so your particular game might require you to change the surface to get the same reaction out the ball as I do at box 2000.

My brother and I and discovered that when our Rico'd Mission starts to lay off in the back we take out the 916AT, move left about 5 board and get all the backend we need.

Thanks for the responses.  It looks like I will be able to purchase the 916 and get a few more boards.

Good luck to all!
