920A burning up
« on: December 18, 2009, 10:37:36 AM »
I have a 920a that is giving me trouble, the darn cover is so strong it is burning up on me and not retaining any energy downlane.
I am wondering if anyone else is having this trouble and what you guys have done to get the ball down lane better.
I got the ball for some angle on heavier patterns, but even on heavy stuff it is rolling way to early.
it is box finish,5" from pap,mb 1" to right of thumb, small hole.
my pap is 5 7/8 over 1/4 up rev rate is about 300.
I am guessing that taking some polish would be the first step, but I would like some feedback before I touch it.

it is probably the fact that I don't have much axis tilt, when I have gotten the ball down the lane,it really has a great motion and carrys nicely.
it just so strong at box surface for me I don't think I will get much use with it,sounds like some polish and see what happens.

I believe you answered your own question.
Besides the 920 core was modified with a high RG to help give the ball more length.  Even the cover was changed with added pearl for more backend not the midlane.

I hade the same problem with the 920a i couldnt get the ball to hardly hook. First i sanded it all the way down to 500 abralon and still no hook? . I talked to my buddie who owns a pro shop he said with the core  being so big it burns up the energy before you can get it through the heads.I resanded it to factory finish and put a 2000 polish on it now it hooks great and gets through the heads very easliy ball hooks a ton comparied to being dull.

I polished the ball up and it is much better now.
the carry is much improved as well.
I used snake oil on the factory finish.
the ball sure seems to take to surface adjustments quite well.

find a good safe polish to use with a slip agent in it like Powerhouse Delayed Reaction and lightly polish it, I have used this on numerous track balls that are either rolling too soon or are too angular and it gives it just a bit more length, but with a smoother reaction downlane.

plus it smells like grape too haha
