Untamed Animal - Mini Review
« on: May 18, 2004, 03:22:49 PM »
Here we go guys…about 4 games yesterday.  House shot is 28ft buffed to 40, heavier centers, dry boards from 4-9.  Normally the shot is blended pretty well but yesterday it was O/U.  I can relate to those who say the shot changes even though the mechanic swore he did nothing different.

Ball stats: 14lbs 1 ounce, 4.5 pin…oooweee, 2 top This actually worked out well for what I was thinking, less then the Unleashed but more then the Havoc.

Layout: 4.75 pin x 2.75 mb from pap near val,  bal. hole placed past pap 1 1/8 inch 1.5 inches deep.  Based on the info that this ball was supposed to have a strong arcing motion to it, I didn’t want to place the mb on or past val afraid that it might stand up too quick.

This ball does exactly what it’s supposed to…STRONG ARC!  I got lined up at about 32 hitting 11-12 to 7-8 at the break.  It cleared the heads cleanly and recovered from the dry with a nice arc.  It carried pretty well here from lite hits to high flush, left some half 10’s.  I decided to see what it would do going down and in.  I moved right, broke my wrist and hit 11-12 to about 9-10 standing 27.  This is where I saw what Precision meant about the ball not jumping off the dry because I was hitting it pretty early at times and it didn’t just grab and turn over, it still got down the lanes quite a bit before heading back towards the pocket.  I carried real well from this angle (put up 9 in a row).  Probably because I wasn’t crossing as much oil or just that I was on a more direct line to the pocket.  I then decided to see how much this ball could hook so I moved left, ended up at 42 hitting 15-16 to about 7-8 and the ball just came charging back but with predictability.  It didn’t “fall off a cliff” like some balls, this just had a stronger arcing motion then before.

This ball revs a ton and has a nice arcing reaction.  This is definitely going to Reno with me in June for the Nats, it’s all about control and this ball offers just that.  It does seem to roll up a little quick but it doesn’t move left immediately after rolling up, it still gets down the lane before making its move.  I’m assuming that’s due to the lower rg design, my Revmaster (very low rg) also rolled up for me pretty quick.

If you’re looking for a nice controlled smooth reaction with great hitting power, then the Untamed Animal is for you!

Sorry Ex, couldn’t wait…

14lbs?  Did you get the Toys R Us version?

Did you throw it in box surface?  Mine actually came with a little sheen, not as shiny as the Sheer Havoc.

So, "Track-sters"

Is this supposed to be a "combo" ball for the Animal....you know, a 1-2 punch kind of thing ?

Chapman, Toys R US didn't make them this lite.....he lucked out and found this one in a Cracker Jacks Box.

Sounds interesting Rick. So would you say in box condition it is stronger than the Havoc?

Don't feel sorry for me guys....I think some how I can pull through this!!!

lol...just wonderful to know much your loved?...lol

Sorry guys, the Untamed(OOB) is stronger then my Havoc and less then the Unleshed in "oil".  However, on the wet/dry, the resins may actually look a little stronger then the Unleashed.  They will respond off the dry stronger which is what it's supposed to do.  I did get a chance to throw a few shots with my Animal to compare and the Animal outhooked the Untamed by about 4-5 boards for me.  The surface out of box was what I'd call a sheen/matte finish, just like Precision mentioned before.

JeffRevs, I'd say this would make a nice 1-2 punch for you since your Animal is drilled with the hook/set reaction, you can drill an Untamed with the mb in a strong position and that would give you a good seperation between the 2 balls.  But as always, ask the man(KOTM).

Chapman, Ex, and where's Loose?, just wanted you guys to know to get your shots in cause....."I'm drinking MILK now"...

Sorry, I was out practicing...tournament Sunday, 1st annual BGT Classic, checkin starts at 9am, Brunswick Zone Niles...

I about hurt myself laughing at Mr. Chapman's comment about the "Toys R Us" version, absolutely priceless!

This Animal Untamed dealie looks real nice, haven't seen one thrown yet (hopefully Friday or Sunday) but I can see where it would come in nicely after the Unleashed starts checking up a little early or starts rolling out (if the PU does roll out...)  As you know (and some have "argued" with me about it...) i'm getting another Unleashed to have sort of a smoothed out reaction, something inbetween my Unleashed and Apocalypse.  But this Untamed looks almost too good to pass up
