Takes on the Rule
« on: September 17, 2004, 05:17:37 PM »
We are all saying so many positive things about the Rule, but it seems like it is getting spread around through too many posts. I think it would be a good things for us to put them all in one place for people to check them out, so lets start here.

I have had probably 40 games on my Rule by now and I love it more and more every time I get to throw it. I have had a chance to use it on a few different patterns (I am close to posting a final review, remember, I don't like posting reviews on a ball so I do the mini reviews--you cannot tell about a ball until you have had some good useage on it), it seems to be able to handle everything but the heaviest of oil or very heavy carrydown.

I mention this about the carrydown and heavy oil.....but I have mine shined with magic shine. Out of box surface this ball is very strong and would handle that carrydown and oil just fine.

Versatility, very consistant/predictable reaction. The Rule is a do everything ball. Adjust the surface accordingly and you can have: dull a strong oil ball or polished a skid flip reaction that allows the ball to get good length and unbelieveable backend.

Keep the great equipment coming Track!!!!!

I finally got myself the RULE!!!  I should be able to get it drilled up tomorrow.    I have a Phenom drilled 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 with the pin below the ring finger.  This layout occasionally revs a little too early, so I'm planning on drilling the Rule 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 with the pin above the ring finger.  This should give me the extra length over my Phenom, and it will still be strong on the backends.

If anyone has any suggestions or comments, please let me know.  Can't wait to try it out!

icetink,

Instead of going with the same pin distance just moving it up, why not go with like a 4 3/4 pin from PAP....(I assume the other measurement you were giving was the MB, right?).......Just place the MB in the #2 position, this will push the ball further down the lane----with tremendous recovery on the backend.

Well, the Rule's length rating is 5.0 vs. the Phenom's 3.0.  Having the balls drilled exactly the same, the Rule will naturally go further.  I'm afraid that if I put the pin too far (and up) and mass bias too far, the ball may miss its breakpoint.  From what's been said on these forums, Morpheus cores are very sensitive to drilling.  However, because the Rule is a very strong ball, I'll take that into consideration.  The distances I mentioned are mass bias to PAP location.  So anyways, I can probably go with a 4 3/4 x 5(MB) with the pin above the fingers.  Like you said, this ball will push further down the lane and should have tremendous backend.  Thanks for the suggestion EX.

MrTrack also suggested the same thing to me, so now that's two people who have laid out the ball exactly the same (for me).  I really love the support of the Track staff.  They make things (ie.ball/drilling decisions) so much easier!

Hey Dino,

With your hand bud?  No problem....but just like any other resin, it's going to want some dry.  With your turn in comparison to mine, I still think you'll be deeper with the Rule than your Animal on your vid condition.  Go get'em D...

Ended up drilling the ball 4 1/2 x 3 1/2(MB) with the pin below the ring finger (my driller said the pin couldn't be put above the ring finger).  It's drilled exactly the same as my Animal.  It gives me that extra length that I need, but it's very aggressive on the backends.  On a THS with no OOB, I was standing at 45 shooting the ball out to about 2, and it would come back and crush the pocket.  On a sport shot with and OOB of 5, I couldn't get the ball to stay on the right side because as soon as it hit dry, it would just snap.

The ball is a lot more 'jumpy' and angular than the Animal whereas the Animal gives better midlane and backend control and predictability.  I've only shot 6 games with it so far (and left only 3 ten pins...not bad for me), so I can't really thoroughly review the ball, but from what I've seen, the Rule is a very strong and angular resin that can handle carrydown and med/heavy oil no problem.
