Slash/Animal Untamed Cracked!
« on: August 07, 2005, 12:42:17 PM »
Both my Slash that I recently bought and only have about 20 games on, and my Animal Untamed have both started to crack around the pin/fingers.  I have heard that there has been a problem w/ Columbia 300 (Columbia,AMF,Track) equipment covers or fillers that is making this happen.  Anyone else having problems w/ their C300 equipment cracking.  (I'm didn't leave the stuff in my car either.)

Hey BigB20,

about a month back I had my Heat inside the house because I wasn't using it much except for tournaments and I was organizing my room and I found my Heat with a crack all the way around from thumb hole to finger holes...I simply gave it back to my pro shop and they sent it back and got me a new one...the new one is great and is still holding up...if you have any problems I would take it back to the pro shop and have them send it back to the distributor they got it from or have them send it back to Columbia 300, Inc. thereselves and they should replace it for you...this is the step I took...of course, plugging it WILL VOID the warranty so, don't plug it...take it back to the p/s and let them get you a new one...hope you get everything worked out...Track does have great equipment and hard hitting I might add but I can relate on the equipment but oh well...Track is still # 1 in my book!

I plan on taking it back to my pro shop, the guy is like a grandfather to me, so that's not my problem.  I like the ball, but if a lot of people are having the problem, then I might switch back to storm equipment.

psaunders300,

I understand where your coming from, apparently when the Animal series was the top notch performer from Track, alot of people were throwing that ball here in town and were experiencing the cracking process around the fingers, including myself...and BigB20, I would get another Slash and if it does it again, I wouldn't blame you for going back to Storm, but Track was supposedly after the Animal incidents be getting with BASF (who made the Bully) and were suppose to come up with a solution on how to keep the coverstocks from cracking around the fingers and other various problems they have encountered, I have shot great scores from Track and I respect other ball companies as well, but my support is in Track...good luck guys with whatever you choose and God Bless You!

I have had only three balls crack in the last six years of throwing track and they all cracked around where they were glued. I have seen several that were cracked of other peoples and they had an excess of super glue in the holes. Any ball can crack if not properly drilled, meaning size of bridge, angle of holes so as not to meet in the bottom of the fingers, not too much super glue. Some balls do crack more than others and the untamed may be one of the balls. I have not heard of any Slash cracking except yours. I would have another pro shop look at them and they may see a problem with how he drills the fingers that could be making them crack.

Track has the best customer support in the business and they have replaced every ball I have heard of being cracked.(except for having plugged it first)
If it is a defect Track will replace it.

I had an Animal drilled Thursday. The bridge cracked. My actual drilled bridge is 1/4 inch. I use inserts, so my total finger bridge is 1/2".

The holes were beveled. Super Glue was not used as an adhesive. (It was a light-brown colored glue.)

All of the "No-No's" were observed:
Was not heat related. Newly sharpened bits were used; Ball was drilled slowly; no cyanoacrylate was used; holes were beveled; bridge was 1/4" or more wide.
I wonder if Track would replace the ball? I don't keep equipment very long, so I don't care as long as the grips stay in the holes.

Duke,

I don't think that Track will replace your ball because you "modified" the ball once you placed finger inserts in it. I may be wrong on this one but this is the impression that I'm under.
