Title: Animal Untamed drilling?
Post by: Inferno Man 2003 on February 13, 2005, 12:21:54 PM
What is everyone's opinion on the best way to drill up an Animal Untamed to be as aggressive in the back end as it can be?  i want it 2 roll thru the heads and crush the backend.

For backend, drill it with a lot of flare, but late roll.  Something around a 4" pin to PAP and 3" above the midline should help the ball save a lot of energy.  Put the mass bias in a strong position (3 3/8" to 4" from PAP).  I'm by no means am an expert or even close to certified, so wait for the more knowledgable (ie. EXCALIBER, tenpinspro, etc.) to come and give advice before drilling it up!

Inferno Man,

Much of the reaction you are looking for is going to depend on your game, and your release.

The Untamed gets into an early roll, no matter the layout (I had one drilled to go FOREVER and it still got into a fairly early roll). I would suggest to drill it with the PIN about 4 1/4- 4 1/2 from PAP and about 3 inches above your midline, place the MB 4- 4 3/4 from your PAP (usually ends up being towards the thumb).

This will allow the ball to get some length and still retain energy for the backends of the lane. You may also require a coverstock adjustment, but try it with the box finish first.

Mine is drilled 5x3 pin over fingers and gets pretty good length. This is my favorite ball for reading lanes. I get to use it about 1/4 of the time but it my go to ball when I get in trouble because of its consistancy. When it was new I put just a little polish on it but since the Xception came out I keep it at 1000 sand. They compliment each other well.

Hey Inferno,

Do you know what your pap (positive axis point) is?  It would really help in suggesting the proper distances relative to your game but generically speaking, I'd keep the pin up above ring area and the mb right of the thumb area up to about an inch or so.  So long as your not a spinner, full roller or anything like that, my layout should be pretty close to what Ex states.  Hope this helps some..
