best Track ball for medium/heavy shot with carrydown

Which ball would you Track masters recommend for a medium/heavy oil shot with slight carrydown? I need something to fill the gap between the Animal when the heads start to go away and will be a little stronger than my Eraser Pearl Particle. I've been reading about the Animal Untamed, and another guy on the board also talked to me about a Sheer Havoc. My specs and style for what I have now are in my profile. The conditions I normally would use this for would be short oil THS, heavier inside of 10 to 10 than outside. The Monday team I bowl on has a number of lefties as well and we usually break down the head oil quickly by the middle of game two. One guy likes to play 5th arrow out to 5 board with his Throttle-R, another guy is a full roller and starts 10-5 and then moves into 17-7 with his Power Charge, and I like to play usually between 13 to 4 or 5 on this shot. I can move deeper if necessary as well.

Matt,

With what Track currently has to offer I think that the condition you are speaking of cries out for a Rule. Naturally you will not be able to keep the surface in box, you will have to put a little bit of polish on it to get it through the heads, but it retains its energy so well for the breakpoint and usually does not have a problem getting back through carrydown.

Out of the other 2 you listed I would suggest the Animal Untamed, simply because of the overall predictability of the ball. As with any Track asymmetrical drill it for the condition you want and the reaction you want and the ball does it. The Sheer would not be a bad choice either, but the Untamed gets through oil a bit more consistantly.

The Rule would be a natural compliment.  It's very strong downlane.  The surface would need to be adjusted depending upon the layout.

The cover of the Sheer will have to be adjusted to work in carrydown. It won't be as angular as the Rule or the AU but its slight particle cover works well with carrydown with slight surface adjustments.  I have one that I hit very lightly with a maroon pad and it works very well with carrydown.

Hey Matt,

Based on the last few months that we've talked and working with you in playing different shots, I'd say the Animal Untamed fits your game a little better.  It naturally likes to roll a little earlier than the Rule and the cover is not quite as strong as the Rule giving you a good separation from the Animal as well.  Is your Animal sanded btw?  

It is still a tough choice though because both balls can get the job done with ease.  It would be a matter of what shot or line you'd like to play that makes you more comfortable.  As you saw from my vids, the Rule does offer a ton of room downlane as well.  Your choice bud, can't go wrong either way.

Rick: Yeah my Animal is sanded down to 800 grit, I was told I could sand it down a little more if I wasn't happy with the reaction but I'm very happy with what I get for a reaction when I'm bowling on heavier oil. A couple of people have said the Animal Untamed may be the better choice, so I think I'm leaning in that direction...it's so tough sometimes when you need to fit a piece between what you have and also make sure it provides the different reaction you need for the lane conditions you face.

If you are bowling on a short THS pattern that get some carrydown the Untamed is your answer. Especially because it is a short pattern. The Untamed does a skid, hard arch, whereas, the Rule would be way to much for a short pattern. It's a nice drop down from the Animal too. Keep it in box condition and use some kind of pin over finger drilling which you will get more length with a nice hard move on the end. Mine has a 5X3 drilling and gets through medium cayydown easily. If you want it to snap a little more, put "a little" polish on it. Track balls take to polish very well, so polish a little at a time for adjustments. If you are looking for a specific ball reaction and need some drilling advice, Tenpinspro and Excaliber are staff members and can lead you in the right direction. Hope this helps.
