need some Phenom info
« on: October 05, 2007, 07:58:07 AM »
I just tried my new/used phenom last week as lately my mean machine has proven to not be the oil ball I thought it could be for me.the Phenom was real impressive in the oil and carry down so I would like to know a few things about it incase I should feel the need to replace it some day.
what is the particle load of the cover and what current ball could you compare the Phenom too.
Please,no Ebonite covers as I feel they are in a different catagory.

It's a high-load particle ball, originally came at 1500-grit sanded.  I'm not sure what it'd be comparable to now, there aren't many high-load particles left that aren't real rolly (I'm thinking of the AMB Particle and NS2, both of which have a lot more surface than the Phenom).

thanks for the info,I'm surprised that it's a high load particle due to it cleared the heads well and has a great back end move.could be the type of ball and layout I've been looking for.pin under grips on the center and the m.b. on the val.it ignored the oil down lane where the mean machine would'nt hook at all.very strong hit!this house has alway given me fits,I can never seem to get a strong enough ball downlane and anything I could get downlane did'nt have enough cover to carry in the carrydown, think of a 50' flat medium pattern.

Yeah it's a good ball.  My buddy's is drilled with a pretty high pin (it's got a 6" pin) and he gets a lot of length out of it for a dull ball.  He's polished it up with a Lustre King and used it on a medium to medium-light over/under shot with some good success.  I think the higher RG goes a long way towards helping it clear the heads.  A lot of "oil" balls have low RGs to help read the midlane earlier.

You might get a similar result out of an AMB Particle if you bring the surface up from "concrete" to 1500-grit.

Might still be the best ball i own. Since our change to better lane oil ive brought mine from out of the locker. Its drilled pin under ring mb on VAL, just love how it sets up on the back. It and the Unleashed are a great combo for oil then medium. Stuff like my Robo Rule, Arsenal Aggressive and token big B ball(Goliath) are good but dont get the length this thing does, will still turn over on the backs when the Unleashed struggles a little.

Thanks everyone for the replies.I'll give it some more time with this ball to see if I still like it after the honeymoon stage passes but so far for an old ball it's been very impressive.I want to use the ball and the layout as a standard for future hook mosters that I will consider in the future, that may be easier said then done.
