I am looking for suggestions on which Track balls would be best for a three or four ball arsenal.

Bowling style: Stroker
Ball speed: 16-17 mph
Revolutions: 230-240 rpm
Track diameter/Axis tilt: 11"
Positive Axis Point: 5 1/2 right 1 1/2 up

I am looking for something which can handle a variety of conditions. I bowl on anything from house conditions to PBA and sport conditions. Versatility would be a key factor.

The Desert Heat seems like a good option for a dry ball. I would like to hear other opinions, on how to layout a 3-4 ball arsenal, with some rationale to support the decision.

Well, I like to fill an arsenal like this. Start with your bookends...GP2 and Desert. With these 2, you can cover the oiliest and driest of lanes. In the middle, especially for the PBA conditions, I like the Slash. Its a great benchmark ball that you can start with and go from there. From there, I would either go with a 5.0 to be between the GP2 and Slash, or an original X to be between the Slash and Desert. With you MPH, which is a little below mine, I would lean towards the original X as it will get down the lane better for you than a 5.0.

As for layouts...what ball(s) do you have now that work well for you and how are they drilled? I would drill the GP2 strong to handle oil and the Desert weak to make sure it handles enough dry.

Hey cd,

I myself just started using Track in April of this year and was in the same boat you were in. The Track Staffers here (Carl, Rick, Clint, Achappy, etc.) and users here have helped me layout and choose balls that might be beneficial to my game. Our PAP's are pretty close and so are some of our stats. Just take a look in my profile.

Maybe you can start off with a 4-ball arsenal like...
Heavy Oil (Early Roll) - GP2 (MB on VAL)
Most Mediums (Strong Arc) - Xception 5.0 (MB in strong position)
Benchmark Ball (Smooth Arc) - Slash (Pin under bridge/ring and CG swung on midline)
Light-Dry (Not sure how to set this one up hehe, suggestions guys?) - Desert Heat

The staffers and Track users here can go into more detail and give their opinions, but if I were to start from scratch, I'd probably try the above arsenal a shot.

Here is what I would suggest myself...

Heavy....5.0.....I haven't encountered a condition this can't handle...from flood to the mediums...easy surface changes will allow a wide variety of options....

Medium...Slash...(though I prefer the Havoc myself).....slight tough of polish or box condition will work on the house shot and again easy to change surface..

Skid/Flip.....Xception....for when you start to see dried out heads..nothing better...

Dry....Desert Heat....

With the current line, you can build an almost infinite level of arsenals.

For example,

You can build within lines (and price points):

1. High Performance Asymmetric:
GP2: Dual Particle Dull(Floods)
Rule Delta1: Strong Resin (Med Heavy More Backend)
Exception 5.0 : Strong Backend low load particle (Medium/Med Heavy)
Exception: Resin Pearl Strong Backend (medium light)

2. High Performance Symmetric:
Arsenal Aggresive: Dull Particle (heavier oil)
Arsenal Reactive: Dull Strong resin (med heavy)
Arsenal Angular: Particle Pearl (mediums - strong backend)
Freak-a-Zoid - Reactive Pearl (medium light

3. Heat series
Blue Heat - Dull Particle (heavier)
Slash - strong resin (med. heavy)
Heat - Polished resin (med light)
Desert Heat - highly polished pearl( very dry patterns)

Or any combinations of above.

This is the strongest the line has been ever, IMO.

The options are endless.

Some people drill all their balls the same and let cover/core dictate the difference - others mix and match...

What are your intended ideas, or what do you prefer? The more we know, the more exact we can become....

I have to agree with clint's suggestion on this. I like the idea of setting up "bookends" and then filling in the rest. I would also suggest the GP2 and Desert Heat as your "bookend" balls, then I would support those with balls that will give my different reaction shapes.

The GP2 should be drilled for flooded conditions, therefore putting the mb on VAL and the pin in a location relative to your pap that will promote early roll.

The Desert Heat should be drilled for lenght and control. You dont want something that will jump off the dry. Therefore pin above bridge, cg in palm would work well.

As for the two fill-in balls, I would put a control ball and a skid/flip. That would lead me to the Slash and Xception. Drill the Slash for control to read lane patterns and drill the Xception for length and flip.

This will cover all lane conditions and give you a variety of reaction types to choose from.

Thanks for all of the fast replies!

I am currently using Ebonite equipment. I have a V2 Strong (med. particle) and a V2 Clean (polished reactive). The layouts are below.

V2 Clean: Pin above ring finger, CG at 5 o'clock.
V2 Strong: Pin 1/2" further right and up from the V2 Clean, CG at 5 o'clock. Balance hole 1" from PAP.

These are both symmetric balls, so my immediate thought was to get something that was asymmetric. These are both pretty weak reaction balls, in my opinion. The V2 Strong has a very smooth continous backend reaction. The V2 Clean goes longer and has more backend reaction. In total hook, they both hook the same amount. They just do it at different times.

What Track balls would be closest to what I have? Does the Slash have a similar reaction as the V2 Strong? The V2 Strong is a good benchmark ball for me now. I intend on keeping the V2's so I would like to complement that.

An asymmetric ball is a given, for heavy oil. I was thinking of the Rule Delta One also. How does the Rule Delta One compare to the GP2?

The Desert Heat is exactly what I need for dry conditions. Do I really need a weaker drill layout on this one? I was thinking stronger might be better. How much backend does it have, in general?

How would the Arsenal Reactive match up in all of this?

Delta 1 is reactive solid GOO LS (same cover as original X, but no pearl). It will hanlde more oil than most/all reactives, but not as many as the GP2 in theory. Without trying the Delta, I can not give a clear comment on that ball, but the aggressive GOO dual particle on the GP2 is tought to beat for oil. The Delta should fit right below, but again, I have yet to try it.

As for your stuff...I feel the Aggressive is very close to a V2 Strong. I had a strong back in the day before joining Track. However, I did not have the 2 side by side so I can't give a clear comparison, but they would be close in my book. As for the V2 Clean..I would say the Slash would be close. The V2 Clean is clean through the heads, just like the Slash. The Slash is a GREAT benchmark ball, maybe one of the best out right now!

I have yet to try an Arsenal Reactive, so once again, I am not sure how this would/will fit.
