Arsenal Aggressive Review
« on: March 22, 2005, 02:38:55 AM »
Personal PAP 5 over ¾ up, rotation 45 degrees, speed 14-15mph, weight 14lbs
Layout 1.5x1 for control, pin 2 ¼ above mid, weight hole 1 1/8 6 inches over on mid line, 2 ¼ deep

Testing Condition:  34ft buffed to 42ft, heavy center drier between 5-10 light hang outside 5

Readability and Hook: This ball is very strong even with my control layout.  It revs up very quickly and handled the oil line with ease.  If I swung it out towards dry, the control layout allowed it to recover but nice and gradually with a strong arcing motion, no jumpiness.  It really just opened up the shot and allowed me to play multiple lines across this shot, very impressive.

Control: With this layout and coverstock, this ball has been very predictable in the oil and also coming out of the dry.  Highly recommended for those who have problems with over/under conditions these days.

Hit: Extremely well.  It carried from all angles and rolled thru the inside oil with it’s softer cover to move just enough on the backend to kick the corners.

Overall: As stated, it is very impressive.  It currently sits about 3-4 boards less than my GP2, which is drilled to roll early for heavy oil.  The Arsenal Aggressive is a nice fit directly underneath it.  With this control layout, it currently offers me the best of both worlds.  I can play the oil line with it (Peak particle cover) and I can even send it to the dry boards and not have it over react.  Again, a very nice reaction for those touchier over/under conditions with great hitting power.

Special thanks to Track Staffer John Walther III for the layout idea.

Rick,

I may be missing something here but if the pin is 1.5" from the PAP, how can it be 2 1/4" above the mid? Just curious. Thanks!

well, he's 3/4 up so 2 1/4 - 1 1/2 = 3/4 (i think)

Rockbowler,

Rick most likely has the pin directly above his PAP.  That would give him the 1.5" from the PAP, and with his PAP being .75" up, the pin would be 2.25" above his midline.

Rick,

Glad to hear you know JW!  He's a great guy and one of the best bowlers in the Eastern Region.  He helped me lay out my Crunch Time about a year and a half ago.

That makes sense. One more question, the MB is 1" from PAP . Does that mean that the ball is like a pin in ball with the Pin, and MB about 2.5 to 3" from the pin? I guess, I have not seen a ball yet with the MB close to the pin?

The second number is the cg not mass bias. The Arsenals don't have a marked Mb.

rock, like Mitch says. No matter the pin to CG length, the MB on an asymmetrical ball 'should' be 6 3/4 from the pin.

Rick,

You say it is strong and even, how would you compare it overall to the Slash?

Thanks Ozsweet, perfect explanation.

Ex, it out hooks my Slash by at least 8-10 boards.  My Slash went pretty long for me and didn't like the heavier oil line as well.  Going to throw some more tonite, trying to get in tune for Nats this weekend.  I'm still kind of in shock with the strength and continuation I get from this layout on this ball, it's very, very nice.
