Tantrum Surface Adjustments

I wanted a ball that goes long when the lanes break down. I drilled this one 5 x 5. Here is a picture of the layout: http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/rr81/RCKYURWLD/New_Drillings_Fall2008/12Tantrum.jpg

I wanted a reaction that would not be radical, so I placed the MB next to the thumb. I threw this ball with the box finish which is 1000 polished on a softer surfaced synthetic house shot that was eroded pretty well in game 3. I swung the ball from 30 out peaking at 10 and the ball went long and flipped into an angular roll and crushed pocket. It rolled like a receiver running a post pattern (readable)if that helps. I loved the reaction and hit, but feel the need to adjust the surface for more length. I like this ball. It makes me realize just how great it will roll with other layouts.

My question is this. Should my next adjustment be 2000 Abralon and polish or should I just go to like 4000 compound/polish?

Randy,

If you feel you needed more length but still want that reaction off the break. I would say just add some polish. I want to say try extender or delayed but that will cut off some of the backend you are getting. I am going to say apply some magic shine to just lessen the overall hook some. This should help it get down lane, without changing the overall reaction you like. Also, remember with the MB strength being so low, it wont show any signifigant affect to reactions with its placements.

Wouldn't going to 2000 polish give me a tad more length or be a good idea?

It would give you more length but it could change the breakpoint shape. Just by adding magic shine, you are not changing overall ball motion. But you still add some length, but the break point shape will not change significantly.

What in your opinion would going with a 2000 or even a 4000 cover change the shape to? Keep in mind that I used this ball in game 3 when the lanes are basically burnt up from all the high rev players. I was smacking the ball pretty good myself

Yes by changing the surface under the polish you will see alot more energy saved and the backend motion will change. The best thing to do would be to just apply a polish that will lessen the overall strength of the ball, but not the shape of the reaction. The best polish for that is magic shine, hands down.

I took a used 2000 abralon pad and went over the ball on the spinner with clean and tacky. Then, I rinsed out the pad and used it with water and went over the surface a little bit, then I put 2 coats of Magic Shine on the cover and let's see what that does. I should throw it tonight in game 3
