Arsenal Update
« on: May 29, 2005, 03:37:04 PM »
I just sold my xception (see monstercrank's post) and my arsenal would be as follows:

GP2- floods
Arsenal Aggressive - Heavy
Slash - Medium-Heavy
Arsenal Angular - Medium
Heat - Dry

Is there anything you guys would add to this? My driller steered me away from the xception (due to my game) and suggested this arsenal.

Buck,

That is a pretty nice Arsenal. To get the Angular into that position you may need to adjust the cover a bit and apply some polish.

What you have listed is very good. HOWEVER, after getting more and more use out of my Xception 5.0 I have a difficult time suggesting an arsenal and not including it.

Thanks EX.
When you say I should adjust the surface on the Angular, do you mean that it would be better served (OOB) for medium-dry? Would the 5.0 fit into the medium, or could the Slash go in that spot if I stay with the 5 balls?

Buck,

Personally what I would do is this:

Floods: GP2
Heavy: Arsenal Aggressive (box surface)
Med/Heavy: 5.0
Med: Slash (light polish)
Dry: Heat

The Slash is an awesome ball set up for mediums. PERFECT to read the lanes with...be your benchmark ball. If you need a little more "POP" the 5.0 is great change of pace ball. It will hook close to the Arsenal Aggressive, it offers up a great midlane read with tremendous recovery in the backend of the lane.

[on edit] I listed it as the Arsenal Angular above the 5.0, should have been the Aggressive. It was getting late.

EX,

Problem is, I have both the Arsenals. Mind you, all of the balls I have haven't been drilled yet. I waiting until the end of June to do that, since I'm experimenting with a new thumb pitch. in one of my old balls, my driller changed my pitch from 0 to 1/8 forward. So far, so good. I may go a little further forward (3/16) to see how that feels. once I'm comfortable, then I'll finally get on TRACK with my game.

Buck,

If that is the case I think that you would be better served with placing the Angular above the Slash. The Slash is going to handle mediums better. The Angular with its OOB finish will be able to fit nicely underneath the Aggressive.

Hey Buckwild,

Here's what I see would fit, basically what Ex already said.  Just my definition of oil concentration is a little different.

Flood - GP2
Med Heavy/Heavy  - Aggressive
Med med - Angular
Med - Slash (lite polished)
Med dry - Heat

The only thing you could really do is either add a 5.0 for a change of pace or a spare ball. Other than that, what you have is pretty solid!

I just bought a Desert Heat. All the balls are undrilled as I write (I waited because I was trying out a new grip and was using one of my old balls all summer).

So now my arsenal would look like this:

Flood - GP2
Heavy/Med Heavy - Aggressive
Medium/Flip - Angular
Medium/Arc - Slash
Medium/Light - Heat
Dry - Desert Heat

With the Slash, how much polish should I put on it, and what type?

Thanks for sparing my life The only reason I sold it was because my driller told me it would be too over/under for my game.

Depending on your game the desert heat may be a ball to buy.  I feel if you don't mind playing real deep then the heat can be used on dry.  I have both the heat and desert.  I like the fact that on dry I have 2 options to use.  Other than that I think your arsenal looks great.  In fact I feel your arsenal would work well on tough patterns.

Thanks D, you beat me to it. As far as the 5.0, what category would I put that in?

You can polish the Slash lightly with Magic Shine or some Clean and Polish.  The Magic Shine would give it just a touch more backend in comparison.  Hope this helps..
