Hmmmm....
« on: July 15, 2005, 02:21:36 AM »
Ok, so I finally got the rest of my equipment in. I have a 5.0 which is going to be drilled the same as my Mutant Mania. Pin under ring, mb 3" right of thumb. This will go under my GP2 although I think my Blue Heat is strong enough for that slot.

My Heat was going to be drilled pin over bridge, cg kicked right 1/2". I wanna put this under my Xception but above my Desert Heat.

I also have a NIB Desert and NIB Blue Heat. Not sure if I am going to drill or sell. If I drill, I wanna make this Blue more of a control piece and maybe polish it up a bit. Rick, Carl, Anthony, Clint....any input on this??

Try something with a 5 to 6 pin to PAP...this will get the ball down the lane. Also, either hit the surface with something smoother than the factory surface to help promote length or a quick hit of Clean N Sheen...

Clint,

If I do drill the second Blue Heat and put the pin 5"-6" from PAP. The pin would end up above my fingers, I assume, and where would I want to place the cg??

BTW, how do the drills sound for the 5.0 and Heat?? Do they work for what I am looking for?

I think the other drills are fine. With the CG....the closer to your axis, the more side weight that needs to come out...and even though other forums say CG nomatter....I think it *somewhat* matters, especially in symmetrical balls. Closer to your PAP you get, the earlier it will roll. Keep it in your palm, it will get down the lane better and have more backend.

Hey Rock,

The layout for the 5.0 is fine and will actually fit under the Blue which fits under the GP2.

The drill on the Heat is also good and will fit between the Xception and Desert like you think.

I'd go with a 5.5x3 with the pin about 3.5-4 above mid on the Blue for a little more length and control like you want.  However, instead of polish, maybe just fine sand it to about 2000 flat (like Loose mentions) so we can keep the smooth look.

All the balls you've picked are very nicely separated in surface and reaction.  It's pretty much what I have in my bag now, I just flip between my Aggressive and Blue sometimes.  Everything else is the same.....

Thanks for the input Rick.

After drilling up the first Blue, I was amazed at how strong and aggressive it is. That ball definately fits the slot between the GP2 and 5.0. I couldn't believe how early that balls wants to move.

Nonetheless, all of the stuff I have now prepares me for just about any lane condition I could encounter. BTW, have I mentioned how much I am enjoying throwing the Desert Heat. I have put about 10 games on mine so far and am averaging 219 with it!! This ball is soooo smooth and controllable. One of the nicest pieces I have thrown in a while.
