Well, I drilled 1 of my 505A's so far. I drilled it 4.5 X 5 5/8, 3" ML which for me, put the pin above the bridge, MB right by the thumb, CG just left of the midline (right handed), no extra hole.
I practiced a few games with it Thursday after 1st shift of league was finished. The first thing I noticed was how easily the ball got through the front part of the lane. Even though it was after 15 games of league, it still never read the lane early. I started with my feet on 20, targeting around 10 down lane (pro anvilane markers). When the ball reached the break point, it really cut loose. It had a very strong, continuous down lane reaction. This ball seems to keep the pins very low and just push them off the back of the pin deck. I kept bumping my feet and target left and never had an issue with recovery or the ball burning up.
I used the 505A Friday in league on a fresh house shot. I realized just then that this ball was just way too angular off the spot on the fresh for me. I tried forcing myself to use it as long as I could but eventually my brain kicked out of "new ball syndrome" mode and I switched to my 505C. After league was done I hit the surface with a new 2,000 pad and polished it back up with factory finish hoping to smooth it out a bit.
Saturday I tried it again during my travel league, a small 8 lane synthetic club. I started with my 930T on the heavier fresh pattern playing 25-12, staying more up the back of the ball. I decided to throw the 505A on my fill shot since the 930 was starting to hook up a little early. I stood in the same spot, same target and threw the best shot of the game, 225 finish. The ball was a lot smoother than it was OOB and a lot more predictable. I ended up throwing the 1st 11 that game, leaving a stubborn 4 pin on the last ball, 299! I just continued to chase it in for the 3rd game and ended up with a 258 - 782 for the night. Nice surface adjustment!
My view of the 505A so far is this: It's a lot more ball than the 505C overall, longer and stronger on the back. It's not as angular as the 715A, but it's pretty darn close. My 715A has an old 2,000 on it, so it's a little earlier than the 505A but the 715A still has more motion on the back. I have to drill some other 505C's and 715A's to get a good idea of where the 505A stands, but as of right now, this new ball is my favorite in the line.
