Ball just under 607A SE ?
« on: November 19, 2010, 02:19:06 AM »
Purchased my 607A about 3 weeks ago, and absolutely love this ball. Even when the lanes are burnt, can use it successfully, though it becomes quite a challenge to maintain enough speed after several games on such dry conditions.

But am new to Track, and only have a rough understanding of the numbering/naming system, so was wondering what the next ball below the 607 would be, with similar ability to go long and skid-flip, but be a little later still as far as when it makes it''s move). Maybe a 505A?

Also....

I have a Columbia Bedlam---but haven''t thrown it since last year---, and this ball''s specs appear fairly similar to the 505A (per www.bowlingballinfo.com), so maybe the 505 would be redundant?

I think you should look into the 300C.  Even though it is a "C" ball, you can still lay it out to give you some decent angularity on the backend.  I am not sure if the 505 is enough of a step down from the 607.  The 300 should be more playable and easier to control once the lanes are too dry for the 607.  Just my opinion.  I attached a video of the 300C for you so you can still see that the ball is plenty on the backend once the lanes start to hook a bunch.

Thanks. I didn't know much about the 300C, but watched the video and it does sound like it might be a better option.

Was bowling a ridiculous number of games (24) on what started as a Medium to light oil shot and it eventually deteriorated into a desert pattern. 607SA was performing well, but when it was starting to become difficult to get it deep enough, I kept switching to my Storm Natural and a couple of times even my old Brunswick [hard rubber] Black Diamond.

Natural worked ok for a couple of games, but what I gained in control, I lost in mixing action and forgiveness. Finally went back to the 607SA and basically used every bit of energy left in me to get it down to my desired break point.

Wish I had had something with me that was less aggressive than the 607, but still much more angular than the Natural would ever be, and the 300C does sound like it might be a good fit for that spot.

Thank you for mentioning it!

If you do decide to go with it, let us know how it goes.  Glad I could help.

I use a Lane Masters Hornet for this.

Drill it strong and it will still have a nice move to the pocket. And it hits as hard as any ball I own.

I would say that by the sounds of it you just need to look at something with a weaker core/cover combination altogether.
Without really knowing how you throw the ball, I would suggest talking to your proshop guy about the 300C, Freezes or vibes.  Even something like the Hardball or Curveball from Ebonite.  These are all the next level down for the most part where the 500 series is essentially the same level.

This is my ball under a 715C which would equate some to a 607A in a Track line-up.

505A 63* 6" 50* P3000.  No xhole....3" of flare with tight flare line seperation gets good length and at P3000 has enough bite in the back end to roll thru carry down.  Not flippy.  http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q29/scotts33/Bowling%20Equipment/Track505A.jpg

I would term this ball 505A and layout will handle light to light-medium for me but I am able to move in and also change releases so the ball will match the lane condition better than some.  So, this ball maybe more versatile for me than some.

505A with a similar layout to your 607a and adjusting the surface as needed will get the reaction you're looking for.  Also like mentioned by other posters a 300c with a stronger layout and again, altering the surface as needed will help you get what you're looking for.

my 300c has a stronger drill and it still gets good hook.so watch how you drill it.this ball can be sneaky strong.its like the ninja it will sneak up on the pins and destroy them.
