Hey Ace,

How much oil do you want to use this ball on?  Average house shots?  For an all around average oil condition, I'd suggest either the Slash or the Solution Power Plus.

Track offers a wide variety of equipment designed for a bowler's specific needs.  We have high performance symmetrical and asymmetrical equipment along with our classic equipment line which really covers the ranges of oil conditions we see in todays game.  Hope this helps explain some....

Thanks Rick for your swift reply, lanes are more like average house shot. I am actually looking at the Xception. Is this any good for a stroker and the lane condition mention ? Or should i just stick to the Slash that you have mentioned and to try out the feel of a track ball....Thanks....

Hey Ace, (You're very welcome)

Our Xception is a good medium piece also.  Please remember that being asymmetrical in design, the placement of the mass bias becomes very important in the ball's overall reaction shape (earlier roll, midlane read or late break).  If you can get your driller to provide your pap (positive axis point), I can help offer a layout to match your desired reaction, thanks.

I've also sent you a pm in mass bias definition (non-technical description).

Thanks again Rick, I went to talk to the Pro shop guy and he recommends a Freak a Zoid instead of the Xception as he has one last piece and willing to let me have it cheap. What do you think ? And what drilling do you recommend ? thanks..

Hey Ace,

Sorry but just got in from the shop.  Long day...anyway, the Freakazoid is also a very good medium piece and natural design (lower rg) allows the ball to read the mids quicker with a nice controlled backend movement.

I still don't have your pap info so suggesting a layout is a little tough.  Let's do this, can you tell me what ball you use now that you like and describe how it's drilled?  Try and describe the pin placement and cg (if symmetrical) or pin and mass bias (if asymmetrical) relative to your grip.  A photo would even be better.  Another way to do this if it's a little complicated, can you tell me how close your closest oil line is to your fingers and thumb?

This will give me some idea of what you have, how you track and what the Freakazoid can offer you, thanks.

Thanks Sixcranker for the reply and recommendation.

Rick,
A brief description will be I am a lefty. The ball I am using is the Intense Inferno and is drilled with pin on top left of my ring finger, cg is off and in line with my ring finger. I do have a picture of the layout but I do not know how to attached it. Can I have you e-mail address so that I can send it to you ? Thanks.

Hey Ace,

Based on that, you can basically keep the pin in the same position but move the cg out left of the pin.  If you look at your Intense, from cg to pin creates an 11-11:30 angle.  The layout I'm describing creates more of a 1-1:30 angle (from cg to pin) and along with the FAZ's lower rg design, this should give you a different look.  It should be much stronger in the midlane and handle a little more oil as well.  Your current layout sounds to be what we consider as a label drill with some pos side weight.  If you want, you can still send me a pic or email at tenpinspro@yahoo.com  thanks.

Hi Rick, I have sent you an email on the II layout and your proposed layout, just to confirm that I get it right.

There are also a few questions that I would like to ask you :
a) What is the difference in reaction if the pin distance from the cg is different ? eg 1" pin as compare to a 3" pin ?
b) I am a power stroker and do not need too much hook in the ball, so it is true that I should choose a ball with hook rating that is not too high maybe in the region of 20 to 30 ? If this is so that I should give those high end ball a miss ? because based on the stats given their hook potential is mostly from 30 to 40.  Thanks...have to trouble you again..

Hey Ace, (No trouble at all.  This is how we all learn, by asking.)

Typically, a longer pin from cg (pin out) can create more imbalance and wobble which creates length before it starts it's psa (preferred spin axis).  A pin in ball tends to roll more evenly and stable which helps start it's psa faster, therefore not having the same reaction properties in comparison.  Here's a very helpful link (thanks Storm Track) with info put together by the group of guys here on BR to help educate today's bowler.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In regards to your choice or necessity of hook.  This is all relative to the bowler and his/her needs.  If you consider yourself a power stroker and bowling mainly on medium conditions, you probably don't need to have balls that are strong or designed for heavier oil.  However, I would not just use the hook rating numbers as your main guide because that can be a little misleading and each company utilizes their own system.  The best way is to do exactly what you're doing, ask.  Hope this helps some and feel free to ask us here in the Track forum anything you're not clear on.  We have a great bunch of guys that are really willing to help their fellow bowler improve.

Thanks Rick, both the Pro shop guy and myself are very excited, as he can get rid of the last FAZ and earn some cash from me and I am going to try a new company ball and I really hope that I come up top on this deal.

Ah, now you can use that diagram as a template and you can change it around and assist those that required your expertise in laying out their ball.

I am going down over the weekend and have the FAZ punched and hopefully have some very positive results to share with you...have a good weekend ahead.

Hi Rick, how are you doing ? I would like to update you on my latest additional the FAZ ! Finally got it punched on Sat, but the sad thing is not to the layout that you have recommended. Pro shop guy was said I might not need this layout yet and drilled the ball label drilled. I was wondering what are the differences between the label drill and the layout that you have recommended. Rick can you explain more ? If the Pro shop guy is pulling my leg, then this will be the last time he is drilling my bowling balls.....

Anyway even will the label drill, I still like the reaction out of this ball, it is very consistent and powerful in the backend. Just have a consistence release and the ball will do the rest....really happy with it. This is the start of many other Track balls for me...Thanks Rick and all.
