Ball Suggestion?
« on: July 11, 2006, 01:48:18 AM »
I'm looking to buy a new Track ball, I throw a Phenom right now but our lanes are always on the dry side and I have a very difficult time trying to get my ball to delay it's hook.

I've got the Track list of the current ball selection and can use some help picking one out.  I'm looking for a ball to use in dry conditions, one where it will be easier to delay the hook(Phenom's length is only 3) but still have a great back end reaction.

Any suggestions?

Hey Marauder,

Buddy, you are screaming to me the Solution Power Plus EX. Even though they are discontinued, I'm pretty sure you could find one NIB somewhere online. If they are even drier, then don't forget about the trusty Desert Heat. If the Solution EX isn't enough ball for you then I would go with the Arsenal Artillery. It is a hard choice I understand, it is just depending on what type of reaction you are looking for buddy! If I can help ya anymore just let me know! God Bless You and have a great week! I'm also sure the Track gurus, alas Rick and Carl will be on here soon enough to post their thoughts!

I think I am leaning towards Desert Heat.  The reviews seem to say it's good for light to medium oil but still has a decent reaction if the lanes happen to be slick.

Careful what you call "dry".  A dull, high-load particle ball like the Phenom can make a lot of conditions look dry.  The Heat or Solution PPEX would probably be better.

Ok, so maybe I'll go with Heat.  The backend is listed at 7 instead of the 4 of the Desert Heat.

Hey marauder181, (How've you been bud?)

Be careful, this can translate in to a couple of things like Shelley mentions.  The lanes may be too dry or the density (or thickness) of oil may be too thin for the cover of the Phenom which can also cause the lack of skid which would reduce our backend reaction.

Either way, the Soulution EX or Heat is a good choice.  The Heat is a bit stronger overall.  Hope this helps some...

Thanks Rick, I've been pretty good.

During my fall league I wasn't having too much of a problem with lane conditions, but it just seems this summer I'm doing everything I possibly can to delay my hook, some new equipment should help quite a bit.

What's a recommended drilling pattern for this ball and the type of throw I'm looking for.  ( I know it's tough without me knowing all my current drill patterns).

Would a 5 x 5 pttern probably be the best for me?

What's your pap bud?  Would help to know that info before suggesting a layout, thanks.

I was using the Phenom with 4 1/2 x 3 1/2, extra hole 1" beyond PAP.

And it wasn't hooking?  No kidding.

But what was your PAP?  High track?  Low track?  Medium?  Average speed and revs would be helpful, too.

What does this layout on the Phenom do for you on the proper condition?  Hard to say again without your pap but you could probably do a 4.5x4 and that should give you decent length with good backend. Let me know..thanks.

I'm not sure how to measure this stuff, but it was high track (oil comes back on the ball in a flare pattern).  I haven't measured speed in awhile, but I think it was 16 mph (about average?)

I think a good fit would be the new Equation. It sounds like you need some length...this ball has that and a ton of backend.
