I guess us older guys are wondering if Track is like the drug dealers? They give you a taste and then make you wait.........

When I see a ball called the Phoenix on the Track website, when I see BTM and BJI review the so-called Phoenix, when I see it in on the Pro Shop display wall and when I see it for sale at Buddies, then I will believe there's such a ball. Until then, the Hex is their best benchmark ball.

Based on the Phoenix's specs, I think this will be a benchmark piece. I used my Freakazoid as a benchmark piece and loved that ball. The Phoenix has similar specs.

FAZ - 2.46 RG, .048 diff.
Phoenix - 2.45 RG, .050 diff.

Very similar, hopefully I can grab one of these and use it as my new benchmark piece. I am gitty with anticipation now.

I think for most people an RG of 2.45 is going to roll too early to be considered a benchmark ball.

The Slash. Period. That was my last Track ball before switching to Brunswick. I still like Track equipment and eagerly await the arrival of the Phoenix. Thanks Phil. Welcome back.

Probably because that's the only hard number they can see. Unfortunately this sport has few hard numbers. Oil amounts and patterns are the unseen "enemy". Gokf has visible greens and trees and sand traps and rough. The lane hides everything in bowling.

A ball is ALWAYS core + coverstock. Looking at the core only is a fool's folly. Always was; always will be.

This is kinda funny cuz newguy <Phil> is involved,  All I have to say is if you go back thru ALL of the benchmark ball threads on this website.  This ball ----> http://dynothane.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=13&Itemid=13 will be mentioned more than any other ball Track or otherwise!
Black Solid Vendetta # R/G: 2.530 # Differential: 0.042

This is the ball all others will be mentioned after.  Track has something close if the Phoenix is it so be it.

BTW........IMO a bench mark ball should have an arc early roll reaction.  How else are you going to read what is down?  So, many folks have no idea what a REAL bench mark ball is.  They just name their favorite bowling ball.....it is NOT your favorite bowling ball people!

Scott,

Of course Track had something like it; they called it the Slash. Almost everything about it was virtually identical to the Vendetta Black.

When I described a "benchmark ball" above (don't we get tired of doing that; we should ask STrom-Track to put that definition in his FAQ webpage), I described a medium length ball. I figure early roll is for heavy oil. whatever.

FYI One of my favorite Track balls, the Hex, is also a benchmark for me and has Phil's (apparently) favorite core in it also.

charlest,

I'm not disagreeing with you there. But I still have a hard time believing, and seeing is believing. I agree with the previous comments that a good bench mark ball is a medium rg, medium diff with a medium grade coverstock. For me, I have never thrown a ball with an rg of 2.45 that actually worked well for me as a benchmark ball. The ball simply reads the lane too early, regardless of the coverstock, unless we are talking about urethane.

I do believe it is about matching core, cover, and player. I'm sure it will make a good benchmark ball for some people, but not a majority of people. It sounds to me from the rumors that it will be a good oil ball.

slash, solution power plus, havoc, inertia, heat blast are all good balls to read the lanes with. Yet the inertia and the heat blast will need some oob cover adjustments to fit it better.
