Best ball for...
« on: February 08, 2007, 01:54:30 AM »
Pleanty of head oil and flying backends.  I've been using my Desert heat but it still flips pretty hard and is hard to predict.  Same with my Equation and PM.  I was thinking about either using my Robo or my Black widow in hopes to bleed off some energy before the break point.  I was also thinking of dulling my Desert.  Maybe this would smooth out the breakpoint?  Does anyone else struggle with this condition?  Any suggestions would help

Well, it's not a Track ball, but there is a ball that was designed specifically for the conditions you describe, so I thought I'd mention it:

My suggestion would be the Roto Grip Venus.

Best of luck in finding the right ball.

This isnt a track ball, but on the conditions you mentioned I score well with my Smokin inferno with a low flare layout. Im sure a ball that is meant to go long with a similar layout will work for you as well. It goes long and has a strong arc on the back.

Black widow has back end built in.  How about urethane?

I'm pretty sure the smokin would be too strong off the break point, It is similar to my Equation being a skid snap ball.  As far as urethane, I have one and the hit/pin carry is not up to par, (Scout urethane).  I would really prefer using a ball in my current arsenal with some cover adjustments.

PS The Black Widow backends nothing like the PM or the Equation

This is the type of shot that high-load particle equipment is made for (in my opinion)...  Lots of oil up front allows them to get down the lane w/out burning off too much energy.  The high-load particle acts to smooth out the wet-dry at the end of the pattern.  I would look into finding something along the lines of a Swamp Monster / Goliath / Mammoth / Epic Battle / (insert whatever else comes to mind)...

If your Desert is too much on the backend you could put a hole in it to make it smoother or if it has one you can enlarge it. I use hole size and depth a lot to take the snap out of a ball and make it easier to control on the backend.

Well considering the description of your lanes I beg to differ. My no mercy, inertia, absolute inferno etc all take off or burn out before they hit the pins on a fresh pair, but the smokin with its layout actually reads the lanes well. It has the lowest hook potential layout which has very little flare. You may want to experiment with a ball that is meant to go long and layed out for minimal flare.

I agree with Strapper...first thing that came into my mind was the Epic Battle. My Battle is pretty smooth off the wet/dry.

My desert is drilled 5 inches pin to pap with cg in grip center, so with the Deserts low flaring core this ball is not flaring much.  With this drilling there is no balance hole option.

you need a particle ball with an abralon finish of 4000. I suggest a Machine, an Arsenal Angular(if you can find one) or even a Robo Rule.

I think I will take my desert down to 2000 abralon, Black Widow at 2000 and try these.  My Robo is my rarely used oiler with the pin 3 1/2 inches from pap which flares a ton.  I will post the results I get with these two after our Fri league.  Overall from what I've gathered here I am looking to put some surface on these balls so they will use more energy in the midlane and wont snap soo hard on the back.

No pun intended, but now you're on the right track!

To me is sounds like you are need of an asymmetrical ball with the MB placed far from PAP....left of your thumbhole. My suggestion would be the Inertia. The pin distance would be 1.5-2 inches from PAP. This will cause the ball to roll and not have much left for the backend other than what the lanes will give you.

Goodluck,
Carl
