Suggestions for completeing my 4 ball tournament arsenal.
« on: April 12, 2005, 06:04:35 AM »
I am going to quite a few tournaments soon, and I have vowed to only carry 4 balls with me (that means I will only have about 30 at home) I have 3 balls I am taking for sure, but am open to suggestions on the 4th. This would include ANY ball in the current Track line, but no others(no discontinued balls). I would even be open to carrying a 3rd GP2 drilled differently, but with NO MORE hook than I already have out of the first one I have listed below, as I have a 3rd one sitting at home drilled pin beside ring, cg toward my PAP, mass bias on the VAL.

I am looking for something that will fit in between the balls I have listed, not looking for something that will hook more than GP2 #1 or less than my Hexplosion.

Inter City tourney I am going to tends to be on the drier side, although NOT toast/desert/burnt. The others are varying tourneys where I may get a second shift shot, plus some have a finals after qualifying and the house does not re-oil.

As all of you know, I track VERY high (low pins are out), and my favorite drill is pin under ring, cg in palm, mass bias left/under thumb. PAP is 5 over, 1/4 up.

Personal opinion- I do not like reactives very much, I would almost always pick a particle ball over a reactive on ANY day....although I have lots of reactives.

1st ball-GP2 drilled pin under ring, cg in palm, mass bias left of my thumb in my
track. Surface is out of box. This is the devil I shot 813 with the first 3 games in league.

2nd ball- GP2 drilled exactly like above, but with the surface highly polished. Helps me get through burnt heads VERY well.

3rd ball- Hexplosion drilled exactly above with the surface OOB (shiny). Great go to ball for when the 2nd GP2 is still too much. Ball is AWESOME!

4th ball-??? Give me some ideas on what you would like to see me throw in here. I have quite a few other balls laying around at home, so a drill you may suggest on a certain ball I may already have, which is ok.

At home I have the following drilled with different surfaces and very few with different drillings other than the pin under ring, cg in palm, mass bias left/under thumb. These are in addition to the 3 balls mentioned above.

1 GP2
4 Rules
3 Xceptions
2 Arsenal Angulars
1 Arsenal Aggressive
2 Freak A Zoid
4 Animals (plus one undrilled)
2 Phenoms
2 Phenom Unleashed
2 Animal Untamed
1 Dry Heat
1 Crash
1 Crunch Time
1 Crunch
1 Threat
1 Triple Threat
1 Sheer Havoc
1 Havoc
1 Slash

Let me know!

how about the arsenal angular? It would be good on about the same conditions as the hexplosion, but would provide more snap, good for when those lanes start to break down when your in the finals of those tournaments

Or if you wanted more hook than the hexplosion and less hook than the out of box GP2 yet provide a much more smooth reaction use the Arsenal Aggressive. Good for tight playing oil patterns that are a little burnt after using that out of box GP2, on some oil patterns i predict it would be more controllable than the polished GP2.

My 2 cents

i dont understand why you would use a polished GP2 instead of eigher a Rule or a slightly dulled eXception as well? Why is that Clint?

Clint,

I would go one of 2 ways:

1st- More than likely I would add the Xception to this mix. I think you would benefit from a ball that clears the heads as easy as this ball. From the guys I know that have gone to the intercity....length with very good backend is what is scoring best.

2nd- How about a Slash drilled for length and good backend? You know that this ball is not going to be very "jumpy", but it will give some strength at the breakpoint. More than likely it will require a drilling different from your favorite-----I would probably do something with the pin above the ring finger, kick the CG way out to help smoothen it out a little bit.

Man, you have got a big gap in there to fill. If you are going to have dry backend you should have a polished X-ception with the pin above the fingers. Some kind of a good skid/flip drilling. The condition you describe for the tournament has X-ception written all over it. I track high too, and my X-ception loves that type of condition. The carry is just phenomenal. My X-ception has the pin over the fingers and it gives me a lot of hand otions. I know that you like the pin below the fingers but you really should try a pin above drilling for that condition. I believe that it would really expand your arsenal because the X-ception, with pin above drilling, can be used from medium, almost to dry. That would fill a big hole.

One more idea Clint. Since you don't like reactives much, one of those Unleashed with a little polish could be the answer. Since the Unleashed acts similiar to a reactive that could be a good choice also. I believe that the Unleashed and the X-ception are 2 of the best carrying ball track has ever made and I always carry them and mix and match my other Track stuff to them.

Bighook- I like the polished GP2 over a Rule due to the cover.  With my extra speed and high track, I like the extra traction from the GP2.

Thanks for all the suggestions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
