Hey Rev-O, I don't think it's in the pitch or span for you as much as it is in your arm and natural feel you've developed in throwing a ball (if you still look like the last vid you sent me). You typically start your swing with a fair amount of muscling. If you can get more relaxed to start your pendulum, then that will help you not grab at the bottom as much.
I teach my students to think more of a baseball throw where we don't feel the ball until the point of release. When throwing a baseball/curve, we also do not want to turn our hands too fast in the motion which is equivalent to grabbing and turning a bowling ball early as well.
