I'm considering drilling up some stuff without finger inserts and dropping to 14#. I have had some problems with grabbing the ball at the bottom of the swing. I changed pitches in the fingers(more away pitch), and it helped a little, but I still on occasion grab it. Considering the drop to 14# just to save wear and tear on my body!! What is everyones opinion???

Rev-O, you've got plenty of hand to go to 14 without a problem. Only concern with the lighter ball is that it may allow you to "grab" it even more cause it's lighter. How much reverse do you have in the fingers now?

Right now, i'm at 1/8. i was thinking of making a big change, like to 3/8 or even 1/2. would that much change affect my span and or release/thumb pitch?

Yes it would Steve. You have a couple of choices, either reduce your reverse or basically increase the forward in your thumb (and keep the same span) or you can lengthen your span a touch (maybe an 1/8, every individual is unique in feel) and leave the thumb pitch. It'll come down to personal feel for you, no true right or wrong here IMHO.

I would like to know how much thumb pitch you have and how long your thumb is I.E. do you have a long hand. What kind of skin tecture do you have, really dry hands of damp hands?
I would be interested in these question.

my hands are drier in the winter months than the summer months. My current thumb pitch is zero side 1/8 reverse. my current span is 4 3/4 & 4 7/8.

Rev O,
The big thing is if you have changed your finger pitches to reverse....you should also move your thumb pitch. When you went to 1/8 reverse in the fingers you should have gone from 1/8 reverse in the thumb to 1/16 reverse in the thumb.
Another thing to consider....re-check your span. Make sure it is correct.....in order to get the correct pitches you will also need to get the correct span.

Hey Rev-O, I don't think it's in the pitch or span for you as much as it is in your arm and natural feel you've developed in throwing a ball (if you still look like the last vid you sent me). You typically start your swing with a fair amount of muscling. If you can get more relaxed to start your pendulum, then that will help you not grab at the bottom as much.
I teach my students to think more of a baseball throw where we don't feel the ball until the point of release. When throwing a baseball/curve, we also do not want to turn our hands too fast in the motion which is equivalent to grabbing and turning a bowling ball early as well.
