I just ordered a GP2, is it similar to the SCB. I bought the Gp2 for heavy oil. The drilling on my SCB has the pin about 2 inches away from my ring finger with the cg about an 1 inch below my ring. This hooks, but is it the best drilling for a GP2? Or how would the pin between the fingers with the cg kicked to the right be good, I have this on one of my rules and like it a lot???

With the pin below the fingers, you will have a little less backend, and with the cg and most likely the mass bias being kicked out to about at least position 3 on Track's info if not further, you are probably looking at early roll as well. The way the SCB is drilled according to your picture(like most of my equipment is) the mass bias would fall into position 1 on Track's graph, which is for control and late revs. I LOVE this drilling as it gives me a steady and true roll for my game.

As for the best drilling, that depends on your game and what you are looking for the ball to do. Any info about your game (PAP, etc) would be greatly appreciated to help you out more.

Hey htotheizzo,

The GP2 is longer and stronger compared to the SCB. The SCB's I saw liked to roll early like most of our heavy oil balls. I know it's hard to believe but the GP2 does read the mids and continue with a strong backend on heavy oil. As I've mentioned before, this is a look that is not typical of balls designed for heavier oil.

If you want more length and hook from the GP2, keep the pin near the ring finger area and the mb in more of a strong position (between thumb and val). This should give you good strong roll with a matching backend reaction. Be careful not to place the mb too weak (left of or near thumb, 6-7 from pap) or the ball may be too weak for what you want. Hope this helps...

Comparing the 2, the Super Carbide Bomb did not move on oil as well as the Track Phenom, which is nowhere near as strong as the GP2. The GP2 will give you more backend, and roll slightly sooner than the SCB.

The GP2 is simply amazing. This ball turns alot of heads.

I am so intrigued by the Track Rule GP2 that I ordered one yesterday. A ball that rolls early but has a lot left in the backend. Tenpinspro is right that this is not your typical heavy oil ball design. I also saw him throw the GP2 in league but his ball was polished. If I remember correctly, he said the first ball came in a polished box condition but his second GP2 came in very dull like 400 grit so I am curious to see what I get. Anyway, in my experience, the SCB moved more in oil than the Phenom but it looks like the GP2 is in a league by itself. Can't wait.

Another update on the GP2. I hit a condition in league tonight that I have been having a very difficult problem figuring out this season. I bowl on a team that needed a bowler and since I was there I figured I would bowl with them. All 4 of the guys on my team throw urethane and I get horrible carrydown EVERY week. What this ends up doing to the shot is taking away the normal breakpoint I play and inside of there is out of question because they push the oil right to the pocket. If I try to get outside of it I get a very early move usually resulting in worse than playing in that oil. Tonight, my first night with the GP2 on this shot I was able to play in the oil and not have to move my feet or target at all.
I cannot say enough good things about this ball.

Talked to Brian P at Track, the GP2's are at a 1500 grit finish (looks very dull though). I apologize for any confusion.

Have both drilled similar mod leverage...the Phenom is NOTHING like the SCB.

Some videos comparing different balls would be very cool. If anyone can and is willing (*cough*Rick*cough*EX*), please make videos comparing your med/heavy-heavy oil balls.

I WOULD do this with my Animal, Phenom, and Rule as those are the only med/heavy-heavy balls I have, but the only time there's ever enough oil is at my sport-shot league and it's very difficult to be consistent there. If anyone can take time to produce a couple videos, I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated by many!
