Rule initial drilling and practice thoughts...
« on: November 27, 2004, 04:41:39 AM »
Finally got the chance to go to DJ's Pro Shop and have my Rule drilled out and rolled a few games with it. Bowled after the kids leagues, short oil THS pattern (heavier inside of 10 than out), synthetic heads with wood back ends. The ball before drilling was 15 lb., 4 oz., 2 1/2 oz. top weight and 3" pin. I decided to have the ball drilled with a 4.5" distance from pin to pap and a 5" distance from mb to pap with the pin placement 3" above midline. No weight hole was necessary with this layout but I decided based on what I've read about the ball's strength to hit it with a coat of Magic Shine before hitting the lanes with it.

Initially I started lining up at 20 and hitting 15 out to 7 or 8 with the ball, and noticed that the ball got excellent length but when it made the turn it would turn hard. Left a couple of pocket 7-10's which I'm not used to. Decided to move in deeper and throw it out a little more (lined up at 25, hit 20 out to about 6 or 7), started having no trouble blowing racks, be it light hits or packed pockets. I also noticed if I wanted to throw a lower/long release I could get out to the dry as long as I kept the ball speed up, and thought that my best look was playing deeper, coming through the ball more with fingers and looping it out from 20 or 25 to 7 at the breakpoint. I did the latter more the final game and threw a 244.

This ball is very versatile on initial practice sessions, and with different hand releases I believe can be used in a number of different houses. Looks like another Track winner to me and I'll be giving more feedback as I get more games in.

Thank you to Goof1073 (Chris) and John at DJ's Pro Shop in Auburn for the drilling and tips as well as tenpinspro(Rick) and all the Track staffers online for their help...it's very well appreciated.

Matt

Matt,

Good to hear you like the Rule. Tell your son, as good as the Crunch is, the Rule is better *L*

Keep us posted once you have gotten more games on the ball.

Tried to use it in my Monday night league....too much ball for the shot they are throwing down! I'll let you know how things look on Tuesday night if I can get the chance to use it...but at least if that doesn't you can bet the Animal will come out on that night.

Matt...

Glad to hear that you like the ball thus far.  It would've been nice to have had the time to stick around after laying the ball out for you so that we could've thrown a few together...there's always next time.

Let us know how it works out for you in Winchendon tonight.

Well, tonight I got the chance to use the Rule all 3 games on my Tuesday night league in Winchendon. The scores may not be super high, but I'm much happier with the ball reaction I'm getting from the Rule than anything else on this shot. I felt like I had two good looks on the lane: one was playing off the 5 board on an angle, almost a slow frozen rope to the pocket. The second was playing 15 to 10 with a little more ball speed. I shot 202-192-196 for a 590 series, second high in the league (my partner who just had his Primal Instinct drilled out at DJ's Pro Shop too shot 647). When it hit the pocket the pins exploded plus the light hits carried. I left a couple of 7 pins when I got too fast with it, the occasional 6 pin when it was a little high and only left one big split all night (4-6-7 to start the night). Once I get a handle on a proper ball speed for the Rule I can see a lot of high scores coming out of this ball.

Thanks again to everyone, Track has another monster ball on their hands with this one...

Matt
