Burst vs 715C
« on: December 28, 2010, 11:09:48 PM »
How will these two compare?
I am looking for a step down from my 505T, I have a 607A but Im not crazy about it. Just doesnt match my game well, Ive tried many surface changes and it just seems to be not as versatile as I had hoped. I love my 715T and 505T, with the 505T being one of the best balls Ive ever owned! So now I want something that gets down the lane better better than the 505T or 607A.
I have a Roto Grip Dark star which I love but it is a bit flippy and has about 200 games on it, so i want to replace

Current Arsenal:
Brunswick 3.5  60x5x35    2000Ab...hardly ever use
715T           65x4.5x30  2000AB   LOVE IT...but never use on THS
505T           65x4.5x30  2000AB   Use constantly, love it and cant put it down
607A           65x4x30     2000polished    Not comfortable with, tried 4000AB, 2000AB, 1000AB polish

Dark Star        70x4x40 1500 polished    Love it when lane breaks down unless head are totally fried.

Tell me what Im missing......

Thanks
Vince

These to balls are pretty close in reaction. I believe from throwing the 715C and watching the Burst go down the lane, the 715C is going to get around the corner better. With the assymetrical core in the 715C it will respond a little quicker to friction. Both would be good choices, but the 715C would be the ball to choose. Since you have two other track balls, it would be better to get the 715C. This way you will have similar motions in terms of ball reactions.

I just ordered my 715C so I can let you know in a week or so, but hopefully someone can respond before then.

I have a 715C 55* 5" 40*  strong layout but still a readable bench mark type ball.  I tried 4000 abralon and like that surface now keep it at 3000 abralon.  Not too much difference.  Get decent length and not flippy.  Heavy roll to pocket.  BTM says the Burst is very much the same in overall total hook and mostly the same in most categories.  As, Curt said being an asymmetrical it tends to have a bit stronger motion in the back depending on how you lay it out and your stats./lane condition.

I like the 715C a lot a step down from my 920T 50* 4" 45* hole at P2 @ 2000 abralon.

From the looks of what you got in the bag I wouldn't go with a 7 series at all. It would be a sin to drill up a fairly strong ball and just weeken the drill to compare with a dark star. Have you thrown a 300c yet? If not give it a shot. Most of the drillings you got now are fairly skid flippy and you change the surface to even them out a bit. I would go with around a 5.5 pin to pap by 80*. It will be super clean I'm sure. If to slippery for ya knock off the polish with a 4000 pad and it will reall wake up for ya.

If the Dark Star is too flippy, then maybe you need an equivalent strength ball but a polished solid. Maybe then a polished Riot (which would be stronger than a 300C). Normally, I would have suggested a 505C which should have fit into this notch, but they are no longer available.

Another possibility is to use the same ball, the 505T, but use a weaker pin than the one you have AND use a polished surface, since the stock one's 4000 grit is already fairly strong.  By weaker pin I'd suggest at least 1" to 1.5" longer than your current one, and possibly change the sum of your angles IF you use the Double Angle drilling system.

Good Luck.
