Is this normal for a Desert Heat
« on: December 31, 2005, 11:51:30 PM »
I have a Desert Heat that I purchased recenly with the pin placed
under and between the bridge of the fingers with (the pin) more
towards the middle finger.  What I have noticed is that when the
lanes are a little oily the ball tends to roll over the thumb hole. But,
when the lanes are dryer it seems to roll just fine.  Can someone
explain whats going on?  Is it the way its drilled?

Thanks

Hey evileye,

Based on your description, with the pin closer to the mid finger, the block is now sitting slightly on the negative side of the ball.  This creates quite a bit of length which is fine but add oil (more length) to that scenario and it is delaying even more not allowing the ball to create enough friction to flare back downward as it does on the drier condition.  Now add the fact the Desert is also a lowering flaring ball, your track is not going to flare or move as fast downward as other higher flaring equipment typically will.

Pin above mid drillings are very sensitive, not every bowler can utilize this type of drill (high trackers in general).  If possible (if you have enough side weight), you may be able to drill a weight hole to help move the bowtie off your thumb.  Achappy had to have this done when he utilized this type of drilling as well.  Hope this helps explain some...

I had the same problem with mine so, I plugged it and re-drilled it in a different location. Guess what, it still has the same problem. I have eince gave up on it!

Here is more of my story and another person having trouble with it,
