Carry Down Ball
« on: January 18, 2007, 12:55:21 AM »
Need an opinion on what ball to use when the oil carries down some much?
I presently have the Strike Machine, Machine, Blue Heat and Desert heat and I am averaging 218. My third Games is killing my average. For Example Game 1 254, Game 2 229, the third Game Iam lucky if I hit 180

First Game Strike Machine (GREAT BALL) By the 5th Frame I go to to the Machine when the the Strike Machine starts crossing and adjusting doesn't work

Ovalrunner,

I just picked up a Track Triple Threat for carrydown and it works great.  I have it drilled 5" pin-PAP and surface is OOB.  You could also try the Inertia with a finish of 1000 Abralon.  That is what I have mine at and it works pretty good.

The Mean Machine cuts through carry down like none other.

I have a Hawg Zilla mass bias at 45 degrees with a coverstock at 1000grit this ball gets down the lane with oil carry down with no problem. Many bowlers think that the Zilla isn't a heavy oil ball they are wrong ,Just drill her with aggressive drillings and the ball will handle any heavy oil pattern.

Ok, now I'm confused. If you're using a Strike Machine, polished reactive, and the ball is crossing over, you aren't hitting carry down. What you're experiencing is the track area burning up. The lane is drying out too much for the ball to get down lane. Therefore, it is drying out and grabbing early. If this is the case, you have two options. Either move left and play the oil line or go to a weaker piece of equipment and stay in the area you're in. Based on what you have, the Desert Heat is the only piece you have that is weaker than the Strike Machine. If you play the Desert, you'll probably need to make a jump back to the right.
