CG on a Mutant
« on: August 11, 2004, 08:49:22 PM »
Odd question, possibly easy answer, but very important to me...

I used to throw nothing but Track, but went away from them after several bad experiences with Synergy and Assassin. I wanted to give them another try.

I bought a used Mutant and decided to mimic the drill on it, since it was already LH (I'm a lefty) and had pin above fingers, something I haven't tried.
My Mutant (from memory...) Has pin 1 inch above and 1/2 inch outside of ring finger. Large weight hole approximately on my VAL at PAP, which for me is 4-1/4 and up 1/2.
MB is slightly below thumb and 3/4 inch left.
I don't see a mark for the CG?????? Shouldn't it line up with pin and MB? What marks it? Was it on PAP and drilled out by weight hole?

I love this drill, strong back to pocket when everything else is coming in weak. I'd like to put it on a few more balls and see what happens, but can't mimic it until I know CG....

Answers and comments on this drill appreciated.
Thanks

don't bother with the cg on a strong mb ball where the mb is marked. The cg on a track ball is a white small 'nick' or 'dot'...sometimes hard to see...similar to Brunswicks cg mark.

and no...they won't necessarily line up..........

Ok, follow up question then....

If CG position doesn't matter, does it follow that pin length doesn't matter? What's the distance relationship imporetant data between pin and MB, or is the drilling layout (if CG doesn't matter) just concerned with the line between the pin and the MB?
I hope I asked that corectly, I think you know what I'm getting at.... To mimic it with another ball that has MB marked, do I need to worry about anything other than the line and distance between pin and MB?
Thanks!

only on strong mb balls where it's marked does the cg not matter. If it's not marked than the line thru the cg 6 3/4 inches away would be the mb.....

but wer'e talking strong asym/mb balls........did I answer that right?

As far as I know regarding the pin-distance question, on a strong-MB ball, while CG isn't as important as MB in fine-tuning your reaction, the pin distance does still make a difference.  I have 2 Phenom Unleasheds (actually one is for sale) that have a one-inch pin.  Both are pin under ring finger, one is MB below and to the right of thumb (stronger layout) and one is on the VAL (weaker layout).  The VAL one is REALLY weak and the thumb one is still rather strong, however it's not as strong as ones i've seen with a longer pin (2-3 inches).  Hope this helps.

Hey Lefty,

If you want, just have your shop find cg and mark it.  It's not that hard to locate, just need to weigh it a few times and you can always find where cg should be.

Knowing the cg is helpful but more important as Precision mentioned is keeping the same desired distance of pin and mb to pap.  However, you would also want to copy the pin distance from midline because a pin in grip will definitely roll sooner than a pin out on the Morpheus cores(be very careful with that).  If you have any questions, feel free to pm me.
