Ok guys I have a new league that I am getting killed in because of the stripped backends, I can't control ANYTHING. I have resorted to throwing plastic up 5 to keep the ball on the lane in the back end. I have an assortment of balls that are either too much hook, too early, to jumpy or whatever. I need somthing to help combat this shot.

I have never bought a new track ball so this would be a first, I am wondering if I could rely on this ball to be a down and in ball, VERY smooth backend which would be a mild step up over plastic but get in well under my quantum fire. The fire produces ideal length, just way too much kick in the back. Will this thing get it done?

I have a good bunch of hand, pretty high axis tilt, throw ~16-17mph. Everything hooks in these hands, so help me out here guys I need something predictable at least.

The Desert is a good ball for the condition you described..............as long as the oil in the front part of the lane does not push the ball down the lane too long to recover. If you are currently using plastic the Desert should fit perfectly.

I suggest the Storm Hot Rod Hybrid Pearl. It's a really smooth ball, and it should be good for what you're trying to do.

I am just guessing but I am all but sure my profile is so out of date that the equipment is useless. That said I have the following:

Plastic

Quantum Fire drilled pin above bridge cg center of grip, good length too much flip

Storm Fired UP, drilled leverage... not sure exact specs, nice medium ball

Morich WOMB, think its too is leverage, not sure, got it used and like it when nothing else seems to work on spotty but heavier shots

Triple XXXTream, oiler at heart and nothing I can use it for.

Tried the hot rod supersport pearl of a friend and was NOT impressed

Ball driller is trying to talk me into a red pin classic zone, but I'm sketchy about that one.

I do agree that my ball needs to be drilled very weak, but I also know from the old too hot that I LOVED that the weakest drill I can put on a ball even with a .33 differential and a weak cover still was only good for a med-light shot with tame backs. I am just looking for a weak ball to start, drill it weaker and see if that will help, its not an issue of throwing a ton of money at the problem, I have plastic, but its not as consistant as I would like to see. I'm thinking a weak ball would be the way to go.

The Desert Heat is a good choice. Just don't drill it strong. I took advice from some bowlers to drill mine with a semi strong pin distance because of the little flare potential of the DH. That was a big mistake for me. The ball was too strong for what I wanted it for which was dry lanes.

Drill it weak and you will be very happy with it.

I got rid of mine because of the drill layout but will be buying another one soon. Just a good smooth ball for dry if drilled tame.

Hey crankncrash,

The Desert Heat is a good fit between your Fire Q and plastic but there is a big gap in there. Drrev makes some good suggestions about controlled layouts however you must be careful if you throw a higher track or track near thumb. Some axis or axis weighted layouts (pin on pap) change the flare drastically to where it will cause a bowler to flare over the grip. If you have a fair amount of tilt as you stated, you might be able to use a pin over mid (w/ cg in palm area) drilling as that will also help stabilize reaction. If you can get your pap info back to us, we'll try and help with a ball and layout, thanks.
