Give me some advice....
« on: January 17, 2006, 05:01:23 AM »
This should be posted in the Misc Forum, but I like staying here with the "family" guys.

I have not used finger grips in nearly 3 yrs. I have not been having issues at all...but I have been thinking of trying grips again just to see what I think of them. When I used them before the pro shop operator I went to had my span stretched out to 5 and 5 1/8. I am currently at 4 9/16 and 4 11/16.

I have a couple of balls, my BLUE HEAT and an old Dry HEAT that currently have grips. I have ICE Turbo Quads in the Blue Heat and in the Dry Heat I have Turbo Quad 2s with the nubs.

One thing that I have felt very uncomfortable with grips has been the material. There is too much "give" for my liking, even with the firm grips. So I have been debating trying the Ms Quads (TENPINSPRO.....NO comments from you here). The smaller grips also mean less material. I didn't realize how difficult it is to get these...none of my current distributors have any near my size.

Anyways-----------what do you think? Have any of you tried the Ms grips and if so what do you think?

Thanks,
-Carl

Vise has women's grips as well. The problem that I have is that my hand sweats ALOT.....so the texture inside of the quads is very helpful to me.

I just ask because I realized recently how much harder vise grips are than the quads.  I actually intend to go back to quads now, as I prefer that "smushy" texture.  Know a good place to pick em up?

I just switched back from no grips to grips as I am having some issues with my wrist (carpal tunnel) have had issues with it now for more than 10 years (yes, since I was 15), and the grips have helped me get more turn at the backend....I have carried more "off" hits and light 10s in the past few weeks than I did the last few years...but I am also leaving 4-9s now, where as before, the were VERY rare for me.

Carl,

I suggest you try 2 different kinds, regardless of brand: the firmer ones and the softer ones to see which one is more comfortable for you. All the major brands make them, as far as I know. Pro SPorts brand make the Contour Power grips that I use. I use the "Super soft" yellow plus other colors. They make a white one that's harder/firmer, but not hard like the edge of a bowling ball.

The harder ones may make the transition back to grips easier for you. Then yo umay want the softer varieties.

Just a thought ...

Addendum: most colors of the same variety actually can vary quite a bit in size and firmness. Odd that.

Carl,

What about Vacu Inserts?  Too smushy?  I recently re-tried them in two bals and thery are a learning curve but now I get a better feel/release off the ball.  I am a big finesse feel player.

I have not tried the actual vacu system grips.....but I have tried the Turbo method and it worked alright....I just don't like a whole lot of play in the finger hole. I considered drilling the 31/32 hole then 63/64 to clear a bit more room for myself.

No word on the smaller "ms grips"?

Carl, I use to use both regular Turbo Quads and the "firm" Turbo POWER Ovals. Then switched to the Vice Power lift for a while and have gone back to the "firm" Turbo Power Ovals. They are sooooo comfortable. Ask Anthony Chapman about the Turbo Power Ovals as I think that is what he uses also. Just be sure you get the FIRM ones if you don't like a soft grip. I like the firm as they don't get sticky like the soft ones do. Expecially the Vise. They get really sticky, for me they do.

EX, I'm going to message you in a moment of the person to contact to see about getting the Ms Quads.
