Comparing the new 716T and Mission X
« on: February 08, 2012, 07:45:45 AM »

I was just wondering how similar and/or different the 716T and the Mission X are.  Since I sold part of my arsenal, I am looking for a good heavy oil ball and these are 2 of my top choices.  Any feedback is welcome.

I dont know much about the 716T but I have seen quite a few Mission Xs being thrown where I bowl and it seems like a very good piece. I purchased the Dark Encounter for myself about a month ago and it is a good ball as well. I dont think you can go wrong with either of your choices.

We haven't even gotten the 716T yet. As soon as I get it, I will let you know. They could be close, but who knows. Only Fagan and Beasley have thrown it so far.

No problem. Looking at the numbers, the differential, and intermediate differential are both higher in the 716T. So the core is a touch stronger than the Mission X. But really won't be able to let you know until we get them.

That is definitely a good thing.  Even comparing it to my Nano, the 716T has a higher diff/higher RG.   From what it sounds so far, it may be next to join my arsenal.  I am going to wait to see what the general consensus is from staffers like yourself and regular bowlers first.  It looked great when Fagan was throwing it on a tough shot.  Also, the amount of recovery that Beasley and Hanson had in the demo video make it look like a must have.

I asked Rich about the 716t. And he told me it would be the earliest rolling ball they make. And the xt cover on the ball is supposed to give it more grab than the 715t. From my experiences with the mission x, the ball goes long and is very angular for a dull ball. Until the t comes out this is all based on the info I was told

Ok tommy, this is only a first impression of the ball. Drilled it 5 1/4 off axis pin up. Mass bias at about 40 degrees. This put my pin above my middle finger and mass was about 2 inches right of thumb. OOB with no hole. Bowled on the house shot after the senior morning league. The ball looks pretty dull, so I assumed it would read quicker than my 715T and be smoother. But what I got was a pleasant surprise. Ball got through the front pretty easy but once it picked up in the midlane, and just kept going. It never burned up which I liked a lot. The more I went left and opened up my angle the better the ball got. It never had a problem going left to right. Honestly I saw a lot of similarities in the 716T to the Mission X. Personally the 716T is going to be more overall ball. They should have stamped a 9 on this one because it has the most hook potential out of all the balls we have come out with so far. But what I really like is the way this ball retains energy. I will bowl league Monday on a fresh shot and let you know how it rolls on the fresh.

That definitely sounds good.  Now, I did pick up a Defiant and will be having that drilled sometime next week.  From what you are saying, it sounds that the 716T can still have a very useful spot in my bag since 1 of the 2 houses I bowl and sub at puts down heavier volume.  Basically, I would fit it in between the Defiant and the 919C (919C is drilled slightly weaker to be similar to what I had in my recently sold Storm Anarchy).

Best deal I did this past week was from one of our fellow members on here.  I picked up a used 505T for a good price.  I plan to plug and drill that as soon as UPS drops that off at my door.  I'll tandem that up with my new Hammer Brick.

Definitely. The 716T definitely hooks more than the 919C. I am not sure about where the Defiant will fit. It might have more hook, it might not. I would drill the 716T a little different than the Defiant just make sure they roll different for you.

My driller punched the 716T  before league tonight.

He was going to drill it pin under(48x4x68) but I suggested going 40*x 4.75"x 40* and he did. He added a small P-2 hole(on pap) and kept it oob. He wanted it to play a little more in the oil. He got what he wanted. Was able to stay in the soup and shot 821.

What I noticed was it revved up nicely in the midlane with a strong but smooth motion to the pocket. Not a skid/snap at all.
