Heavy oil ball

Sorry for the long post.  But I try to use my Rule as a heavy oil ball it is drill pin above the bridge.  I think my pap is 4 1/2 and 5/8 down.  The rule didn't do the job for heavy oil so I polish it for med-light.  What would be a good ball for heavy oil?  Animal?  The Rule just don't finish as hard for me because I am stroker and it leave too many 10 pins.  I don't have status on RPM or axis tilt.  I have many other balls like Triple Threat drilled label leverage, Detour pin above the bridge, Flash Point pin next to my ring finger, Columbia WOW leverage, and Hammer BBD pin next to ring finger.  I wish I know how to read my balls and what they are good for.  Can someone explain to me what the pin position or lay out would be good for me?

For heavy oil... Choose either Animal, Phenom, Phenom Unleashed.
Let the ball driller see how you throw the ball before he/she punched the holes.

The Rule can handle a fair amount of oil given the proper drill and surface change. If there is a little bit of friction downlane, the Rule will be more angular because it's resin.  If not, then the Animal is a better choice.  You still may have to sand the Animal a little to get the reaction you desired.

Where's the mass bias on your Rule?  It sounds like this layout is possibly too weak for you.  Having the pin below the fingers and the MB on the VAL would allow the ball to pick up a roll sooner.  Also, you could try sanding the Rule down to about 600-800 grit.  I hit mine with a burgundy Scotch brite every now and then by hand to keep the agressiveness up.

One last note, you said the Rule is not finishing hard enough.  How do your other balls react on this condition? It may be that the Rule is actually rolling too early and that's why it's not finishing.

Rule is drilled pin above the bridge.  I hit it with gray and green.  I must agree the ball might be rolling to early.  The polish helped a little because I have medium to slow speed.  I will work on it this week to see if I can get a desire reaction.  Too many bowling ball to play with and remembering which will work better under certain condition is frustrating.

Drilled a solid Uranium this week and this ball moves on oily conditions, I used it on my early league but the lanes didn't have enough oil and the ball would roll out. I shot 255, 204, and 242 on oily lanes and this ball hit like a truck. I used my Extreme on same conditions and the Solid out hooked it by 4-5 boards. Great ball!!

Phenom is NOT heavy oil...at least after the first 30 games; gave it away.

Super Carbide Bomb is in the mail and hopefully this will prove the be the 'mudder' I'm seeking.

I have an Animal and a Slash and I find them both to be excellent heavy oil balls.

For me, the Slash hooks even more than my Animal, but they are drilled differently.  I'm going to use my Animal tonight and I've made a change to my approach and delivery so if I find out different I'll post.

....there's so many heavy oil balls out there that will handle heavy oil.  It just depends on what company you match up best to.  

As for the drillings: for heavy oil balls, try to keep the pin below the fingers to help produce an ealier and stronger midlane reaction.  For asymmetrical balls, keep the mass bias on or passed your VAL to produce an early forward roll.  For symmetrical balls stack the CG or kick it out to get the ball to rev earlier.  

For me, Track matches up to my game and style very well, and the Phenom and Animal are excellent heavy oil balls!  

For others (that I see in my area), they seem to match up a lot better to the Ultimate Inferno or Goliath, and some the Big Bully.

Hey Shao,

Achappy is right on.  We discussed already that your layout on the Rule currently is a little weak for heavy oil.  I believe Mitch B (Track Staff also) suggested drilling an Animal (sanded to 400-600) and I also agree with that.  Just make sure you place the pin and mb closer towards your pap to ensure an earlier roll for the heavy oil.  We don't need any more skid as the heavier oil will already do that for us.  Feel free to pm me if you want help with a layout, thanks.
