Sheer Havoc suggestions
« on: April 27, 2005, 03:14:18 AM »
I just got a Sheer Havoc with a 2" pin and about 3.75 ozs. top.  I'm looking for layout ideas.  Hopefully the "Track Masters" can give me some suggested layouts, the type of reaction that I can expect and on what condition it would work best.  Any surface prep suggestions are also appreciated.  I don't really have a specific reaction in mind or hole in my line-up that I am looking to fill.  I'm hoping to see something that makes me think "Hey, I don't have anything like that!" or "That's something I would like to try!"

About me:  Right Handed; Tweener; Medium Revs; 15 mph or so ball speed; 15 degrees tilt; PAP 5.25" and .75" up (or very close).

Most centers in the area have synthetic lanes with a THS.  I will be bowling in a league using PBA patterns this summer and plan to continue that league in the fall so I would also be interested in layouts that might be useful there or on sport patterns.

A local regional player suggested putting the pin over the ring finger with cg swung out a bit (I was thinking maybe a 60 degree setup) with an extra hole in the positive finger quadrant.  What type of reaction might be expected and on what conditions would this work?

Thanks in advance EX, Tenpins, ACHAPPY, and others for your input!

Keith

Keith, I had a Sheer a while back and loved it. Let me tell you how mine was laid out and the reaction I got out of it.

First of all, I am a tweener as well, average revs, med ball speed. My pap is 6 1/4 over the last time I measured it. Anyway, my Sheer was drilled pin under ring, cg swung out 2.5" from grip center and a weight hole on PAP. The ball got good length but read the mids and then had a very strong yet controllable arc on the backend. This ball is not jumpy at all but very smooth and strong.

Hopefully you will enjoy yours as much as I enjoyed mine, good luck.

I am actually curious and excited about this ball as I just had one as well.

Its drilled the same way as Rocks and I'll be able to test it tomorrow.
Its gonna replace my track money which I loved so much.

Now if I can only get a dry heat....

Put the pin under the bridge, and kick the cg out to just under an oune positive side.  Drill the finger of thumb deeper to get the finger/thumb weight to 0 without a weighthole.  Test the ball without a weighthole.  If the ball is still getting too long, start to punch a wieghthole on your PAP, until you get to your desired reaction.  This layour will initially get the ball rolling in the midlane, but still retin some length for an arcing pop on the backend.  The ball is a good sport shot ball, and when you get the ball house you want it with the weighthole, you will love it.

Hey Keith,

Here's a few options for you without knowing your personal info.

1) 4.5x3.5, "might" look similar to the Bartender
This should clear the heads in med oil and offer you a good arcing backend

2) pin under bridge, cg kicked right (Traumatize's suggestion)
This should promote an overall smoother reaction with controlled backend

3) 4.5x4.5 stacked,
This should offer you a stronger backend reaction compared to the first 2

4) 1.5x1 or 2x2
Very controlled layout, great for flying backends.

If you think of a reaction you'd like, then I can try and help with a layout for that.  Thanks...

Thanks for the replies thus far.  Please keep them coming.

Rick, most of my info is in the original post.  I don't know my exact rotation angle.  It is probably somewhere close to 45 degrees.  I can vary it a bit depending on the type of roll I'm trying to achieve.  If there is other info that would be helpful, let me know.

Hi Keith,

Sorry bud, I was looking at your profile during that(see kids, this is what alcohol and father time have done to this brain).  I've changed only the first layout and the other 3 actually apply to your specs.
