Dry Heat Question
« on: June 26, 2005, 04:43:57 AM »
Hello and Good Day to all my fellow FASTTrackers,

I recently got my Dry Heat plugged and punched up. It is very weird, this is the first ball that rolls over the thumb hole down the lane. I'm sure Carl, Rick, and Clint will all have excellent explanations for this but here is what I was thinking. Since the ball is such a low flare dry lane type ball I figured it would NOT flare that much. Wes (my pro shop guy) drilled it up with the Pin Above the Bridge which for me is a 5 1/2" Pin. PAP is 5" X 1/2". I was just wondering why this ball is rolling over the thumb hole because I know it isn't natural. I still slammed the pocket with this ball on the driest of dry conditions, but was just wondering what the h*** is causing it to roll over the thumb hole? Thanks again guys and God Bless You All!!!

Michael,

Without actually seeing the ball or your game, it could be a couple of things. When a ball is plugged you are essentially replacing mass inside of the ball which can cause it to roll differently. Another possible reason, and this is probably the least likely for the 2, is that maybe the pitches are different? and causes you to release the ball differently?

Carl,

If I could ever find me a video camera I would be glad to put some vids on the Track forum and let you take a look at them. It can't be the pitches, everything feels great...Only thing I could say it was, is that it was flaring over the thumb hole because I seen a small amount of flare about 3 cm's out and close to the thumb hole!

Hey Steve,

As with any low flaring ball (old urethane and plastic), it is very common for the ball to actually flare toward your grip which is what sounds like is happening.

Two things can help here, I can ask Brian for help in regards to a weight hole to help change your bowtie and hopefully remove the minute flare off your thumb or you can plug the ball again but move it slightly over to the finger positive quadrant to hopefully have the block pull downward some to lower your track slightly.  I'll send Brian an email tonite bud...
