Comparison's between GP2 and 5.0
« on: June 25, 2005, 09:17:41 AM »
I'd like more information on the Xception 5.0. I recently just purchased a GP2 and am in the process of getting it drilled up. I am also interested in possibly picking up another ball for this upcoming season to fit in the medium/heavy area. I was considering an Xception 5.0, but am worried that it's reaction is going to be too close to the GP2. I read Clint's mini review and he said that the 5.0 is about 3 boards stronger with more pop on the backend. I'm gonna get another track ball, but I'm wondering if there are other options such as the arsenals or xception that might fill this void in my arsenal a little better. I'm looking forward to any additional info you track gurus can give me.

TjFreaky,

With Clint's style he is not going to really see the difference in equipment that some of us may. Unless the lanes are really dry Clint usually plays pretty straight, he tracks high and does not have much tilt. That is his style and it works well for him.

The 5.0 and the Rule GP2 are 2 totally different pieces of equipment. The GP2 gets into it roll much sooner than the 5.0, and the 5.0 will backend much more than the GP2. I think the 5.0 will handle some decent oil, but unless you were to scuff the surface it is no more than a med/heavy ball at best. The GP2 is an oil monster. It was made for oil.
The 5.0 fits perfectly under the GP2, and above the Xception.

BINGO!  The GP and 5.0 for me are about 7-8 boards apart, if not more.  On certain conditions, if the lane is a little drier, the ball reactions will look more similar because they both can create friction earlier but place them on heavier oil and you'll see the GP2 shine.

Remember, if the road is dry, we can't tell the difference between a snow tire and all season either.  Both will create friction strongly.  It's not until the road is covered in snow that our snow tires can create some type of friction or traction while the all season tire should just slide, same comparison bud.

Rick,

How often do you face snow in Cali?

Guys, Rick always gives very good examples and is very good at explaining things on a level that everyone can understand.

24 years in Chicago bud before I moved to Cal., 6 months of winter and 6 months of construction!..lol  When I miss it, I can "visit" the snow in Reno when I want but don't have to shovel it..

TJ, do that bud and we'll help you out.

Ex hit my style on the BUTTON! I don't see much difference between balls and drillings usually....

I think the 5.0 will be fine for you!
