Crunch and EMB xf, oldies but worth shouting about!
« on: October 20, 2004, 12:55:11 AM »
Have been looking to try a Crunch for a long time!

Went in yesterday and a kid said to me I have one I was gonna put on rack.

I said I'll take it, buy it,  trade it whatever.

A lefty hears me and says I have one too!  Brings it.  Now I have two!

Anyway go in to the center on classic league night and follow the best lefty in league (former PBA tourist and he is good!).

Wanted to compare the pattern put out for them and where I stood versus him.
HE using a polished Mayhem and playing pretty good, me the Crunch.  I'm figuring Crunch a slightly earlier Ti Hawk (same core right?  just denser ceramic nougat!).

WRONG. (I use Ti Hawk on sport patterns and PBA shots) This ugly dull old beat up looking Crunch was exactly what this pattern called for .  Threw a ton of strikes throwing 15 to 10 and carried every thing.
Reads every part of the the lane on this long light pattern on Brunswick Anvilanes and then has a very readable flip.  The only ball that has allowed me to play this line on these lanes to get in where the hold area was and swing out and strike a little was the El Nino solid.  Note the El Nino Wrath is often a ball still used in our area and often with a little sand.

This IS one of the first dull no polish balls I've used in this house(maybe they put a little more oil our for the classic leaguers then the mixed leagers).

Very similar to the Hyde from Columbia that I had much weaker than this 4 by 5 crunch!  God I wish this was prettier(like the Hyde).  I've seen a lot of comparisons to the V2 Solid and this ball but I see a lot of differences.  The faster revving V2 could never be thrown on this pattern with this much surface and is prettier and somehow flippier.  Even though this ball has quite a flip itself!  (Note not to insult the V2) because my other number 1 ball in this house is the V2 pearl and I like it enough to pick up another one last week!

Oh yeah first game 6 bagger, 8 of 9 and then a strike last ball in 10th.  24X.
THis ugly Crunch, I believe one of the best benchmark solids in the game!

EMB XF.. The number one thing about this very pretty ball is that there is absolutely NO XF.  Not one bit of flip none!  Of course this is a 40 foot pattern.  This ball is the first particle pearl I could get to hit on my long thin anvilane pattern!  Smooth and 4 boards weaker than the awesome crunch above but it also has a much weaker surface.

This ball for me is what the Firehawk was for many other players.  Absolutely no wasted motion.  It just either hits the pocket and is dead flush and carries  everything or it misses the pocket!  By the way this ball was 14 and is the first one I've ever used!

As this ball goes down the lane it just seems to be square to the intended line all the way.  Never getting too deep, never getting left(unless one pulls it) and then continues all the way to the back of the rack.  Flush clear the rack strikes every time if it hits the one two pocket. No XF, no wasted motion.

Why was this ball not popular again?

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS the Crunch reminds me of a an earlier Detour, it's almost as strong of a move but not done so deep down and behind the head pin as the detour could on this pattern(detour had polish).
PPS I had picked up a Supercharge for this pattern now I think it might be the trade for these two!  As the move from Crunch is exactly what I wanted from Supercharge.

I like my crunch and x/f very much thank you. Although my x/f does have the flip and crunch is very versatile. The only negative I have is the crunch seems to track in pretty fast.

The XF was the only one of the EMB series that I liked. Had a different core than the other 2.

I can't get over how much midlane move this ball has!

Then when it gets to the pocket It is all about a real HARD Flip!

It is just sure footed and solid then builds up energy to create quite a big reacting ball.  All the way down the lane the ball reads real heavy. Then after all the read it turns and turns hard before the breakpoint!

Drilling is finger lateral 3/8 X 3/8.  I'm going to adjust fingers to go to 1/4 right middle and 7/16 left lateral for ring!

Lefty, I totally agree with you on the EMB XF (should be EMB no XF!) great ball, good midlane, and best of all...NO FLIP!

INteresting the different views on XF.

Again it is the only pearl particle that works in my house which just hates all of them!

Again the crunch is so much read down the lane I can't believe it!  And then that there is such a heavy rolling flip still left it shocks me.

The closest I've ever had was a REVs Leverage drilled Pantera which could really eat up heavy league oil and carrydown.  This Crunch drilled label lev say 4 X 5 is all that!  Without as strong a drilling!

lub lub lub lub lub lub lub lub lub lub flip roll lub lub CRUNCH!

REgards,

Luckylefty
Take your Brunswick Smash/r and add heavier hit flip and roll at back!  Crunch!

Crunch!!!

Again this ball is coming out of the woodwork.

Oh I want another one.  I have a righty one to trade also.
Drilled 4 X 1 1/2.  Got one closer to stacked.

Anyway stopped over at a local center and there was a big tourney going on.
I can't bowl in it due to some weird association problem from last year!  Not enough games by 1!

Anyway a guy I bowl pot games is there.  Another lefty about 6' 6'' and big and good bowler good hand.  I see him throwing good in warmups and say "Hey is that the crunch?  "Yep, it had been hanging on my hand just had the thumbhole worked out!"  about 5 to finish practice.  Then he starts off 10 in a row. Ring and 289!  Next game 255!  Starts with a 6 bagger.  Last game he can get 800 but in the 9th gets a ringing 7!  Drat.  Cost him his 800.  237 = 781.

He told me, "Yeah I do love that Crunch"  Cheap old ugly and great!

Crunch, again though it comes off my hand like a 15 it hits like a 16!

Big strong and fairly sharp this is one of the heaviest rolling balls I've ever used.

Very similar to my Pantera that was Revs Leverage but this is more normal 4 X 5 drilling and it must really is great around here!  Pantera was 3 3/8 X 3 3/8 and stacked with pin nad cg down.  Clearly this ball may be stronger than the Pantera.

Only a similar drilling would be able to tell!

Rev 0 is lovin it!

I traded a Crunchtime I got and never put a hole in or threw and he is tearing up the airwaves with it and is in fact listed on the Track Website with two 800s
with that pretty orb!

Take a look!

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS I traded the Supercharge for the Crunch and a 14 lb EMB XF!

EMB XF, I'll have to look.

On the Crunch.

Today I called over one of our best bowlers who was just finishing up pot games.

To be fair to him we bowled on lanes I'd thrown a game on for practice he'd been on a pair that had morhped into a heavy swing shot on the right.

I threw the Crunch.  It WAS impressive.  He couldn't believe the early roll with so much backend and hit!  This ball makes me look good.  And as he said.  You weren't even throwing good today.  I agree.  Great ball, loosed thumbhole oh well it still strikes.

REgards,

Luckylefty
I see this ball as the top of all solid strong hooking reactives.  Included in my trials are the Xfactor Deuce, Hyde, Super Charge, V2, Silver Streak Solid.
Monster Smash/r, Violet 3d Hammer which I've done some damage with.  It is just awesome!  Too bad it is the ugliest!
