Hex Darkside on the lanes...

Drilled up my Darkside today. AWESOME ball. It fits between my Thrash and my Sonic X. It reacts alot like the Threat, but smoother on the backend. It hits the pins with force. All of you guys that say that you cannot believe that Track has nothing for some drier conditions, this is it. It is going to need the dry boards in order to make the turn.

I am glad they decided to put these balls out. NO track arsenal is complete without it.

1: How much more does it hook than the Sonic X?

The ads for it said it was Bigfoot, the same cover on the Mojo, Spell and Money, but polished. The specs from that ad said it had a little less length than the threat but more backend than the Threat, intended for medium oil. (length= 6.5, backend = 7.)

Remember Excaliber's high speed when he indicates it's for drier, not dry lanes. I'd assume it was for medium-light maybe to as much as medium oil conditions depending on your speed and revs. Manu medium polished balls need dry lanes to make the turn, in fact most balls do.

Coloring is red and black swirl.


Here is the catch with the coverstock....the add was wrong. It is reactive pearl. This ball probably hook about 3-4 boards more than the Sonic X, and reacts a couple of feet sooner. Charlest would be correct in the med light oil statement. This is in box condition though, use some Control It on this and you have a light oil ball.

Thanks for the Coverstock info. I was wondering how much of a polish they could have done to the Bigfoot cover to make it suitable for dry lanes.

Do you think the cover is related to the Hex cover material??

How does the core match up with the cover?  I read it has the KO Punch core in it.  I know you mentioned it was very controllable, a step above the Sonic Solid which is very even, but other than 3-4 more boards and an earlier reaction, are there any notable differences between those two?  (Hit, carry, backend)

Like Warrior said there's a proshop in NJ that managed to get a few cases in.  I'm making an attempt to negotiate with the operator to hold one for me.

charlest, I do not know if the coverstock is related to the HEX or not. I can email Track and find out.


APK, I do not think the Darkside hit harder, it was the kind of hit that set it aside from the Sonic X----and therefore will replace it in my lineup. The Darkside hit great-----but kept the pins very low which helps limit taps. For me, it seems to hit alot like the Assassin. Now I know these balls are two completely different monsters, but that is what I see. It hits harder than the VOO DOO, but not as hard as the THRASH>

From what I've been told, it's the same coverstock as the Track Magic (thus not pearl).  It has a pearl color additive (not sure of the difference).  The Hex is stronger.

I love mine.  Very clean through the front and smooth on the back.  Handles the medium-light better than the Magic because of the higher flare.  I shot 770 with it the first time out of the box.

The Darkside was never released...a production run of 500 balls was made prior to Track deciding not to release this ball.  One supplier negotiated with Track and got all 500 balls...you will see them at select proshops for a while but once they are gone they are gone...for right now Track will not be releasing this ball.  As for the core it is the same as the KO punch and the coverstock is listed on the specs sheet as Bigfoot which is the same as was on the spell..I have drilled 3 up for different customers so far and each has been thrilled with the reaction very clean through the heads with a nice strong but smooth backend.  Grab them while you can as they won't last long.

Just confirmed it again(through Bill Monce and now Del Warren), the coverstock on the Darkside is Pearl REACTIVE. The Track Magic was particle.

My source was Chuck Gardner.  They may all be right :-)  Maybe it's a pearl particle

Either way, it reacts like a slight particle base because of how smooth it is off the pattern.  No where near as angular as the Hex or Voodoo (which are reactive). Pretty clean also.  It gives me the look of the Magic through the fronts with just a little more midlane and stronger finish.  An excellent ball for the lighter side of mediums.

Mine has the pin above the middle finger (6" from my axis), CG swung out slightly with no extra hole.  This has been my primary drill for most of my stuff to provide length and control.  I'll go below the fingers and/or with a "rev leverage" hole for a little more midlane and more hook.
