Current Best Benchmark Ball?
« on: April 29, 2005, 02:21:03 PM »
My B-day is not too far away so I will be asking for 2 new balls for my B-Day. Ignoring the crap from the USBC what in your opinion would make the best benchmark ball at the moment out of all the Track equipment in the current lines and the few discontinued pieces you can still find fairly easily(Hexplosion, Thrash, etc.) I've been using my Thrash for a while but always end up switching over to my untamed(since it actually rolls now) or my Hex to get a better read with the lanes. Unless my thrash matches up right off my first guess I usually can't find a very consistant read with it. There are blowout sales on crashes and hexplosions and I was thinking a hexplosion would possibly be a good benchmark ball. I am looking for a strong controllable move on the backend though, I throw best with my hex and untamed because of the smoothness and control they give me, thrash is great when it matches up but I'd like to put this ball right inbetween the two.

Is the Hexplosion a good choice or would something more like a freak-a-zoid be more what I'm lookin for?

Norm Duke seems to like it!

The Hexplosion could fit there, but it does tend to be more on the end for drier lanes, atleast in my experience with 2 of them.

Both the Hexplosion and Slash can offer a smooth type reaction, but the Slash does this better than the Hexplosion when there is more oil. You will tend to face shots like this if you hit a sport league. So I keep my suggestion at the Slash.

Alright thanks a lot Ex, sounds like the slash will probably be the ball I go with. I may need to tweak the surface a little, the box finish is 1500 grit smooth? I may add a light coat of polish or bring the surface up. I'll also take a look at that drilling you suggested. Anyway thanks ex, clint, and tenpin, and everyone else, great advice.

I want too put my2 cents in here.

THE BENCHMARK BALL THAT BEST FITS EVERYONE IS THE SLASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't have too give you any other reason than 30 balls drilled and no compalints with the ball.
