I am thinking about buying a new track ball for the new bowling year. But my last track ball, the Delta 1, was a bad experiance. Ball was drilled with the pin 4in from pap, even with fingers, and the cg swung to left. Have tried different surfaces, but ball just will not roll and hit right. Have a Mutant and a Freak Out which i still use. Has anyone else had a problem with the Delta 1, or is it just that this ball does not match my style?

Do you know where the MB (mass bias) is located? If it's left of thumb, that may be the problem.. Another possible problem can be the lanes. The Delta 1 was an oil ball, and needed some good head oil to get through the heads better.

The ball had an asymmetric/mass bias core; so it was very sensitive to the right drilling based on your PAP and other factors, plus it was a real oiler with its stock cover finish. These put together might have been the reason you didn't like it.

I had to have my friend's redrilled and then I worked on smoothing the cover. Both factors were essential to get him to the point where it is now his favorite ball.

As the others have mentioned, where is the MB in relation to your PAP? The CG location means nothing on an asymmetrical ball.

My experience with the Delta was simple: When I used it on the proper amount of oil it performed well, when I tried to use it on drier patterns it looked horrible.

I tried using the Delta on medium oil and it was ugly.  I just found some oil to throw it on and it was a monster.  Probably best heavy oil ball I have ever thrown.

Although I didn't match up well with the Delta 1, I had moments of greatness. This ball delivered tremedous pin action. The only other ball I saw with that amount of action was the original Inferno.

Yeah this was an all or nothing ball, saw a then staffer use one out here at our nationals a couple yrs back on the fresh, looked bad!!! 1-2-4's 2-10's, 2-4-5's, 3-6-10's. He couldnt miss with his Solution though, that was the only block i remember it looking bad. It was huge the rest of the time i saw him throw it. When that ball is on its really on, not all purpose like other stuff of that era like the Heat re-release or the Freak-A-Zoid though.

I agree with NKR in regards to needing oil for this ball.  My ball has about a 1" pin and I really, really like mine.  I even shot 790 with it right out of the box:

As several of you have stated, the mass bias may be the problem. It ended up over an inch left of the thumb hole,(i am a righty). Do not know how I missed that little fact, drilled it myself. Not sure I totally agree with everyone who said this is a heavy oil ball, even with this drilling I expected more hook out of the ball, but thanks to everyone for their input.

  Even with a strong cover, a mb placement that far left will/can have a detrimental effect on ball reaction, depending on release and mb strength.

  I put mb left of thumb to weaken my reactions on the backend and also to give me a bit more length.  Works pretty good for me, but I don't have one that far left, usually touching left side of thumbhole.

Unless your rev rate is a lot lower than you indicate, the 800 grit solid resin cover plus that strong core gives most the ability to handle a good deal of oil. The amount of sheer hook is not relevant, although this ball can hook quite a bit on medium-heavy oil. Depending on where your PAP is, placing the MB to the left of the thumb can decrease the overall hook quite a bit. The pin position  and the cover's surface still rules though.
