Delta 1 polished question
« on: January 01, 2006, 04:28:24 AM »
Happy New Year!

This is my Delta:

http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=11/32021583490.jpg&s=x2

I had the ball done so it could be OOB. When I rolled it against my Angular, the Angular had a lot more backend. I since put some Magic Shine on the Delta, but I havent got a chance to roll it. I was playing a line of 12 at the arrows to 8 at the breakpoint.

What type of reaction should I expect out of the Delta with the Magic Shine?

Hey Buck,

The reaction you should get after applying any polish should be more length and more backend. Your Delta is drilled similar to mine and it has a very sharp turn on the backend out of the box. Hope this helps buddy! God Bless you! Let us know the result of using the polish and correct me if this is NOT what happens!

Tonight, I tried the Delta. On the line i first played (12 to 8), I was getting a funny reaction. It seemed to not have much backend, and I left a couple of pocket 7-10s. I then moved in (15 to 8), and the ball had a much better reaction. It looped out, and came back hard, not a skid/flip, but a hard arc. Sounds familiar to you Trackies?

The Goo LS cover is a true long/strong type, thus the LS in the name of the cover. Dull, it can pick up a roll decently quick, polished, it brings me back to the original Xception (same cover) but stronger up front with a wicked turn like the X at the break. I found a happy medium after I hit the Delta with some Delayed Reaction, then hit it with a used grey scotchbrite....worked wonders for me.

For me, it sounds very familiar. Sounds like it was staying in the heavy oil track too long. When it came out, it was still skating and hit the pocket with little drive, thus leaving the pocket 7-10's.

By moving in deeper, you gave it room to get in a roll and bounce off the dry further down the lane when the core came into its roll. Mine is a very hard arc on the back end like you witnessed. I have gotten better carry and scores by playing deeper with my Delta then trying to play up the track. My Delta is 5x5 with pin under finger, cg kicked out and the mb in the strong position.

Hope this helps. I think you should play deeper in with this ball. With the polish on it, you will be able to play the ball longer in the same line. I put Clean and Polish on mine and it tamed the earlier breakpoint, but gets good length with a hard arcing back end. And I can use it for all 3 games sometimes!!

Thanks, Six!

It looks like I played the wrong line with the wrong equipment (the first line; 12 to 8). I started off with the Angular, then when that was skidding too much, I went to the Delta thinking that the stronger ball would give me the backend. Now with the Angular, will it work better if I played inside like the Delta?
If I had to do it over, should I have played the 12 to 8 with something like the Slash or Heat?

They say the THS is easy, but it seems like I'm making it harder than it is by making the wrong choices

Buck,

The Delta seems like a ball to me that each bowler has to find the proper coverstock prep for their game and their "house" more so than any other Track ball released lately.

For example: I had a Delta 1 that dull didn't wrinkle.....and it seemed like it was not burning up.....I sanded it down to 600, hit it with Magic Shine and viola.....backend city. I normally do not have a difficult time seeing burnup/rollout..........but the Delta didn't have that look.

Thanks, 6!

My angular is drilled a little different than yours. It has the ring above the ring finger, with the cg kicked out a little and the weight hole below the PAP. Should this give me more backend than yours?

Also my Heat is drilled like your Angular, and the Slash is drilled with the pin next to the ring finger, and the cg in the palm.

Hey Buck,

One thing I have learned after altering a coverstock is that it takes a few throws to break it in. Thus you polishing is the reason why you probably noticed it skating too far in the beginning...I have learned this through the guy who is on Track's staff here in my town as he decides when it is almost time for the ball to on the "used" shelve to be sold, he always polishes the ball to see what kind of reaction he can get out of it before calling it quits...hope to see everything work out for you buddy and God Bless you!
