Did/Does Anyone Like The Rule?
« on: June 07, 2005, 06:10:36 PM »
Other than the guy that shot 899. I'm looking at drilling something to fit under my GP2 for the heavier medium conditions and it is between the Rule and the Aggressive. Just trying to get some feedback on the Rule before I make my decision.
Thanks,
DW

If you plan on using the Rule for heavy medium conditions, I would advise getting the ball at the very least lightly polished. In box condition (which I've seen a couple of local players keep this ball) the ball can burn up a medium heavy shot quickly.

I did a thorough review of my experience with the Rule in the reviews section, just look up Rule and you can read about it. I love this ball and think it's great as a first ball out of the bag situation for heavy to medium-heavy conditions. I also know a guy that threw a 854 with this ball straight off the drill press with no practice. My high set with this ball has been a 713 and I've also had a 298 this year with it.

Great ball, get one now as it is  supposedly on the chopping block to be discontinued!

I had 4, and all of them were GREAT!

dw,

From my experience, the Rule seemed to really like the smoother layouts. It worked much better with a 4x3 type layout than a 4.5x5.

Hey DW,

Either ball will fit the bill but I went weaker with my Aggressive (1.5x1) to get that separation and it fits perfectly under the GP for me.

The Rule just gives me a diferent look at 4 1/4x4 mb, it goes much longer and finishes harder on the back.  It'll depend on your desired reaction bud...

Thanks fellas,

I was looking for something that would read the mid-lane on a heavy medium pattern and store energy for hit at the pocket. The first Rule I drill 3 1/5 x 4 1/5 and it didn't hit well at all so I will try swinging the MB out a little. I have the Rule and the Aggressive in the closet so I guess I will try the Rule first.

Thanks again,
DW

Love mine. Awesome ball. I keep it at box condition.

I love my two Rules.  The first one is out of box condition with a 4 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 1 1/2.  It reads the midlanes well and has a huge and very continuous backend move.  I really like this ball on a heavy to medium/heavy oil shot.  It gives a very predictable yet violent reaction when it encounters dry.  Compared to my Animal (which the Aggressive can probably be compared to), it revs up quit a few feet later but it's much more aggressive on the backend.

My second Rule is drilled approximately 5 1/2 x 5 1/4 x 3 1/4 at 1500-grit with a light coat of Magic Shine.  This ball gets excellent length but doesn't read the mids as early or as well.  I really like this ball on a medium/heavy to medium oil shot with clean backends.  Compared to my Freak-A-Zoid drilled the same with the same surface prep, it's a few feet longer with the same amount of hook, but it's a lot more continuous on the backend.

I'm looking for a smooth reaction to use on the tougher conditions. I need control in the oil and no over-reaction when the ball hits the dry that is either in the last 15 feet or outside the 7 board on the right.
Thanks,

I'd go with an Aggressive because it grabs and revs up sooner.  It's definitely smoother than the Rule.

DW,
As others have mentioned, it depends on the look you want.  I love my Rule and it is the first ball out my bag.  I have kept in box condition and find it is really clean through the heads, reads the mids well and makes a strong continuous move on the backend.

In general, I believe that the Rule will be a better compliment to your GP2 as it is Reactive and the GP2 is Particle.  This will allow you to get a different look with each ball - one strong particle and the other a strong solid reactive.  If the GP2 is burning-up and leaving corner pins, then moving to the Rule should allow you to carry the corners.  If the Rule is missing the breakpoint, switching to the GP2 will likely be the ticket.  If the GP2 is hooking up early, the Rule's combination of reactive cover and asymmetric core, might push cleanly through the heads.

Probably no wrong decision here as both the Aggressive and the Rule are great balls.  Too bad Track is discontinuing the Rule as it is easily my favorite.

DW23,

I had one with a 4 1/2" Pin, drilled to arc a ton and did it ever! I had to put some polish on it to tame it, I ended up selling it to a friend of mine who gave it to his son because he needed something that would help hook for him. I recently purchased another one because I missed it and since I'm getting back on the Track bandwagon, I feel it would complete the look. Thinking about drilling it with a 3 3/8" pin, basically Stacked Leverage, something really aggressive. I really liked it, it was one of my favorites. Hope this helps ya dude!

Very smart move dw, I highly recommend this to everyone.  Choosing the right piece can be difficult sometimes so gathering as much info as possible to try and make sure the ball/layout suits your needs is always a good thing.  That's why we're here.....
