With all of the great equipment that Track makes and puts out, its hard to not go out and buy every single release. I have been buying alot of balls as of late and really probably wont stop anytime soon. However, every now and then we run into a ball that you really want to work for you but it just doesnt happen.

For me right now, its my Slash. This ball is very jumpy on the backend for me. Its drilled pin over bridge, cg swung right about 1" with a small weight hole. The cover its OOB.

This ball is alot more in the backend than I thought it would be. I will probably alter the cover a bit to see if I can get a different read out of it, but the way it is right now, it is far from my benchmark ball. I really want this ball to work for me because I am sure it will bail me out if I ever get into trouble, but right now it is too snappy for me. Do any of you guys have a ball that you want to work but wont comply with you??

Rock,

Your problem is with the layout that is on the ball, that is a length and backend layout.

I have had 2 bowling balls that I wanted to work for me and didn't. Before I joined staff I bought a Dynothane Anomaly and Brunswick Ultimate Inferno. Niether did what they were advertised to do. I got each right around the time they were released. I was very disappointed.

So do you think altering the cover will get this ball to tame down a bit?? If I knock the shine off, what grit should I take it down to?

Rock, Start making your weight hole bigger and deeper in small increments and you will start seeing your ball pickup earlier and smooth the backend down.

I start with a small hole and then tune it until I get the reaction I want.

I have a Aggressive I did the same thing with and I hated it when I drilled it. It was too long and too way too snappy with a small hole. I finally ended with a 1" and three inches deep. I love it now.

I was bowling a regional three weeks ago and was 20 under after 3 games when I switched to it. I shot 243(with a greek),268, 289 (stone 9) for 800 and followed it up with 300 the seventh game. I went from 70 out of the cut to leader in 4 games.

Work the extra hole and you will see a change in the backend reaction.

Agree with Mitch 100%, and I can reinforce, remove SMALL amounts at a time.

Once removed, you can never put it back (without plug)and that just isn't the same.

Rock,

I like Mitch's advice, but there is one thing that concerns me. You mention in your original post that the Slash is OOB, yet the statement above is asking about taking the shine off. The Slash does not come OOB with a shine. Did you or the pro shop operator adjust the surface at all?

Ex, my pro shop operator didnt alter the surface that I know of. Actually when I received the ball it had a bit of a shine to it as well. Maybe it has a light coat of polish on it. I will take it down first, then alter the weight hole if necessary.

Don't take it down too much. Try sanding it to 1200 or 1500 first, then go down from there.

After putting stlwimp on iggy, I will respond. I have actually had 2 balls like that. The first was my Inferno, that I just traded away. That ball was insanely over/under for me. I know so many people who love it and shoot lights out with it, but it just didn't match up for my game. I tried everything with the surface too. The other is the Ravage I have now. I had it drilled for a sharp break point, but it is anything but. I have a feeling that it has something to do with the weight hole and the location of the mass bias, but I don't know quite enough to be sure. I put a heavy coat of polish on it now and have been using it as my dry lane/up the boards sport shot ball. It wasn't what I was expecting at all.

You know its funny, just about every ball that I have thrown outside of the Track brand has been junk for me. The only balls that actually worked well were a Zone Pro and a Scamp. I have owned 2 Storm balls and both didnt work for me at all. Now I am not saying its the ball, but possibly that the ball didnt match up with my game. I have also owned a few Hammer balls, a Lane 1, Columbia, Dynothane, Roto Grip and Morich. None of those balls performed as well as the Track stuff I currently throw.

If it were me I would put a big xtra hole in the ball. By making the weight hole big it will hook earlier. hope this helps if you try it. I don't know how big the hole is, but I would go with a 1" hole first and if thaty doesn't tame it down.
