Drill Patterns!
« on: September 06, 2006, 02:56:23 PM »
What is your favorite drill pattern and why do you like it? I hear a lot of people that get a new ball and they always drill it the same regardless of the results of the previous ball. I like the pin below my middle finger and cg kicked to the right to create about a 45 degree layout and I also like a shorter pin distance, about 2" and low top and use a 0 degree layout! Thanks for the response! Bruce

batbowler,

I am not real big on drilling all balls with the same layout. You can put alot of polish on a ball and if it drilled to pull (or roll) early the core is still going to cause the ball to do that.

My favorite layout is pin in ring finger........cg is generally stacked directly below. On asymmetrical equipment when I drill them like this the MB position will differ based on the reaction shape I want.

I like this layout because for me it causes the ball to roll early....yet it still saves energy for the backend as well. This is the best layout I have found FOR ME to put on a benchmark ball.

Hmmm...good question.

I don't know if I have one.  I've had a lot of success with many different layouts on variuos balls dependening upon condition.  As Carl and I try to help many of you out here, it is difficult to say because these days with oil densities being as thick as they are and then breaking down or carrying down changes all the reactions needed.  There are just too many variables.....

Personally, I've had very good success with pin axis or beyond pap believe it or not.  That layout offsets my tilt and then stabilizes the backend because I can always get a ball to hook.  This is more for the typical house shot (THS) which out here in nothern California tend to be fairly dominant.

Right now the Equation with a simple 4 1/4 x 3 with this cover and core combo has offered me more "mistake" room then any other ball. On an average, I like stable rolling equipment....good thread bud.

Mutilated1, pm me and I'll give you my "english" explanation and it'll be much clearer....just ask Ramtart, kgee, MC, Kong (just to name a few) about weight block and motion.  I have learned to help separate the technical aspect to the actual usable sense...
