http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/twopay10/my_photosI got all four balls drilled last night. Here's the statics:
Freak-a-Zoid: 15lb 13oz ... 1.5oz side ... 0.675oz thumb
Heat: 15lb 11oz ... 2.375oz side ... 1.375 finger
Rule GP2: 15lb 10oz ... 1 9/16 oz side ... 7/16 oz finger
Arsenal Angular: 15lb 13.5oz ... 1.25oz side ... 1.875oz
finger...
I was shocked when I saw that I had that much finger weight in the Angular! I reweighed it and got virtually the same measurement. Then it hit me: the thumb on each ball was drilled (in my opinion) really deep... 3.25", to be exact. Almost all of my other balls are between 2.25" and 2.5", and I just barely touch the bottom of the hole on 2.25". Since the ball had a low top weight to start, I guess that's how it "gained" so much finger weight. I checked the other three balls...the finger holes in the Heat are a little deeper, as I requested...but they're pretty shallow in all of the other balls.
So, first question: Should I do anything before adding a balance hole to change the statics on this ball? ....should I add some plug to the thumb on the Angular to increase the thumb weight, bringing it back closer to 1oz finger? ...or, should I drill the fingers a little deeper?
I threw several (about two games worth) of shots with each ball on a 36' blended pattern with freshly stripped backends...somewhat like PBA Pattern #3...on synthetic lanes. For the balls in general-
*I REALLY like the way the Freak-a-Zoid rolls! Strong arc, great midlane read (reminds me a lot of a V2 Pearl)...I'd like to keep that ball's reaction as close to what it is now as possible.
*The Arsenal Angular looks great as well...it's a couple boards weaker than the Freak-a-Zoid for me, with a slightly later, more flippy breakpoint and a hook-set backend motion. Definitely controllable...I'd like to gain a little more separation from the Freak-a-Zoid with the addition of the balance hole.
*The Heat probably doesn't quite match up for Pattern #2 (similar to E) yet. It has the strongest breakpoint of the four balls for me, and also appears to hook the least in oil. I'm going to get some Track cleaners and polishes...maybe use some Delayed Reaction on the Heat, add a balance hole that will slightly tame the breakpoint?
*The Rule GP2 looks great- just what I wanted above my first one.
What should I do for balance holes on these four balls?
Thanks in advance guys!
