Finally got to try the Equation tonight.....
« on: September 07, 2006, 03:03:56 PM »
League night. Fresh oil, chirstmas tree pattern, THS, medium oil, more or less. Had with me my Mean Machine, Machine, Equation, Solution Power Plus Ex, Desert Heat, and Columbia blue dot. Started with the Equation, trying a 22 over 10 shot. Didn't work, too much ball. Moved a bit to 27 to 29 over 13 at least that was what I was trying for. Couldn't hit it with my first ball to save my life, did better on my second ball. Ended up with a 164. Yuck. Okay, with that decided to try the Solution PP Ex over 10 from 22. That seemed a safer shot, a comfortable shot, a confidence shot. Great idea, poor result. I bowled pretty well, but....a) had no luck but bad luck. Threw two pocked splits, including one seven/ten split and created a big five with a ball that deserved exactly that when I pulled it. b) Solution just wasn't carrying at all tonight. Left a lot of single pins, no strikes. c) Missed a ten pin. Result = 136. OH boy. Three hundred total after two games. I have a 188 average. Okay, my confidence is down, my trust in the Solution isn't really there, plus my concentration is shot because I'm also watching the Steelers/Dolphins game. (I'm a Steeler fan). So....third game I decide to pull the Equation back out, shift my shot to 32 over 15 and....did much better. How about a 237 which could have been much better as I was tapped three times on beautiful shots. Total score a 537 which with a 136 in there isn't too bad.

Conclusions: Equation is a great ball. Not really a down and in, over the ten board type of ball. Too strong for that on the lanes I bowl upon. But it has a good back end kick and like all Tracks it hits a ton. Yes I know someone who doesn't use Tracks probably gets tired of hearing from Track uses that phrase.."hits a ton". It just happens to be true.

So.....two questions: How many of you have had a spread of over 100 pins (not including a 300 game that is) on a night?
Secondly: I've lots a little confidence in the Solution PP Ex at the moment. What do you do when you lose a little confidence in one particular ball?

Glad to see you like the Equation.

To answer your questions:

I think that alot of people could have a game where they drop alot of pins from what the previous game was. The lanes change and the bowler is just too confident in their shot that they don't realize its happening.

If I lose confidence in a ball I make sure I get out and practice with it. For a ball to not work it generally comes down to the bowler picking the wrong line to play it with.

Got to use mine Wed night in league also. I can notr say enough good things about this ball. We were bowling in a different center. The shot was a just a THS, but with dryer areas outside of 5 than normal. Started in about 15 out to 8 at the breakpoint, ball made a great more and hit hard. Was starting about 10 boards left of center on the approach. As the night went on, I simply just chased the oil line left, eventually movine 5 and 5 left, while keeping the breakpoint in the same place. This ball get great length, no problem getting it through the heads, and then you get the awesome movement and backend. All of these great quailtys at a very affordable price point. I think this ball is a must have for most league bowlers today. ended up with only 679 on the night, but the spare game was not up to par.

spread of over 100:   280 and 1st game and come back with 176....last season at Dublin Bowl during scr league....

Confidence in a piece: Good question Chuck, it can be not being aligned correctly to a shot (like Carl states) but I feel it still wasn't the right condition to allow a piece to open up a shot for you.

What makes us feel good or comfortable with a ball is when we can make mistakes and not have to pay for them, right?  Nobody's perfect, so if we can match up to the right condition that doesn't penalize us for some mistakes, it loosens up the mind which then loosens up the body.  If you ever get on a shot that gives you 2 boards to hit, I'd bet that most are under quite a bit of pressure cause we know we have no area.

Personally when I go from a ring 10, move 1 right and stick a 4 pin....I'm done with that ball.  I've learned that if a piece forces me to be very accurate (which I'm not anymore), I'll go to another piece that gives me the room to make the mistakes that "I" feel I normally am going to make.

Thanks Chuck, here's comes a new thread....
