Title: Dry Heat...is it really that strong?
Post by: REVOLUTIONS PS on January 18, 2004, 09:55:07 PM
I am preparing to drill a Track Dry Heat but am hesitating because of all the posts and reviews that say it is really strong on the back end.  Can anyone compare it to a Silver Streak, Shock Trauma, Heat 2 or Eraser Boost?  I am interested to know if the ball will really go long even on broken down heads.

Thanks for any input.

Longer than a Heat 2, less flippy than a Boost.  The more I throw it the more it reminds me of my Power Torq of days gone by.  Mine is 5.5x5.5 and I would call it strong but not a flip monster like the silver streak that you mentioned.

I have mine drilled pin above middle finger 6.5 x CG of 5.5.  This drilling makes the ball go straight when in the oil the starts a smooth roll when it hits the dry. The ball covers about 7-10 boards and flairs about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch.  If I put a lot of hand in it I can get 12-14 boards but don't need to do this.

PS. The CG is kicked in about 1/4 of an inch.

Hey RevPS,

If you do have a fair amount of turn, I'd definately recommend to drill it weaker.  This ball still moves but it moves very smoothly and continously.
It's longer then the balls you mentioned but UG says, it has less pop on the backend.  It is a very controlled looking reaction.  Hope this helps......

Mine drilled pin above bridge CG kicked out a 5 1/2 x 5 with an X hole on my VAL 3"s above PAP.  I don't use it until the heads are broken down and I am in deep.

Last week in a 5 man league with broken down wood heads...end of 2nd game with Thing Returns and was losing carry.  Pulled out Dry Heat and actually had to move two boards back to right with my feet and trajectory on lanes.  Found pocket light and carried everything shot 256.  No one on either team except me could keep ball off of head pin or crossing over.  I was impressed with the ball performance.  Little flare and much like Power Torq as Urethane Game said.

Cant wait to see some the oz staffers throwing it(hopefully at Australian Open) then i can really see how close it is to the old school Tritons.

I drilled it out with the pin on the grip line, under the fingers.  That puts it 5 15/16" from my axis.  I put the c.g. at 1/4" negative.  I practiced with it and it definitely went longer and more importantly it didn't react as sharply when it encountered the dry boards.  I didn't have to use it in my league session but I am happy with it...Thanks to everyone for the input!
