Dry Heat or Hex Plosion?
« on: September 22, 2004, 10:33:38 AM »
Hey everyone!
I'm looking for some input. My g/f just told me she would buy me a new ball
I don't know what her reasoning is, but I'm all for it. Right now, I have a Freak drilled up really strong for max hook. It tends to be too strong come the third game, so I'm looking for something when the lanes start to break down. I'm looking for something for medium to light conditions. I tend to like to stick with Track and am currently considering either of these two balls. I'd appreciate any input you guys could give me on either ball, or maybe some other ball that might do the job well.

The dry heat will react a lot different from a hexplosion in my perspective.  I don't have a dry heat, although I do have a hexplosion.  The hexplosion is a light particle ball so it will check up a lot sooner than the dry heat, the dry heat would be better for the medium-light conditions since it doesn't have any particle in it.  I don't know if this is true for everyone else, but I've had my explosion for about a month now, after after the 1st 2 games, I decided this ball wasn't what I expected out of it.  I'm debating about redrilling it this moment.  It seems to be very speed and hand position sensitive with about a 6 1/2-7 (1-10, from least to highest) on carry.  Well, I've had a bad experience with this ball so maybe you might want to try from some other people's opinions as well, I'd personally go with the dry heat. my 2 cents

Consider the Crunchtime from Track.I've recently purchased one on the advice of Charlest from this forum.
I only have about 10/12 games with it but I believe this to be a great med/light ball.
Goes long with a nice arc to the pocket.absolutely murders the pins especially on light hits.Good value med priced ball.

The Hexplosion is a great ball.  It's a sleeper ball because of the FZoid and Rule.

It's a pretty strong ball, but gets down the lane very well.  Very strong but controllable downlane.  Because of the slight particle and higher differential, it'll be stronger than the Dry Heat.  If there's a enough head oil where you can get the ball to the break but the Freak is just hooking too early/too much, then I think the Hexplosion would be a better compliment.  If they really have broken down, then go with the Dry Heat.

The other posters also mentioned other great med/med light balls.  The Crunchtime and Crash.

I would also go with a Crash. I have a Crunch Time and see it being too strong for med/light. Of course, drilling will determine this as well. But, the Crash will get you down the lane further and have some backend pop to it.

My Freak often breaks too early or too much, come late 2nd early third game. Keep sending me info boys & girls. I appreciate the help.

The reaction of the Freak is different from week to week. There are certain weeks, when it is too dry for even the first game, and i'm coming in high almost every ball. Usually in these circumstances I end up just playing a little deeper line. On the average week, in the third game i'm just coming in high, often right through the nose. However, there are times when I can only go Brooklyn and nothing else to get a strike. Hope this answers the question.

Now my question is, how much energy does the Freak still have at the pins?? That needs to be known. Reason being is because if it still has plenty of energy then there is probably still a decent amount of oil in the heads and the backends are drying out or the midlane is drying out. That will affect what ball(s) are recommended by us for you.

The Hexplosion is going to give you more length than the Freak, but the Dry Heat will give you even more length yet. They are both pretty smooth at the breakpoint....not flippy.

Either should work. But if you question the Hexplosion being too strong, go with the Dry Heat.

When the Freak starts hooking too much...is it rolling out or is it a continuous hook? <<<<<<this basically reverts back to Rock's post.

I almost forgot....What kind of drilling should I put into these balls for what I want them to do?
