hi guys im new to laying out balls i need a little help laying out a power machine,i already have a machine with that started out as 15lbs 3oz 3.5-4" pin and 3 3/4 top, my driller set it up like this

.....o..o.......
..........cg..weighthole(small right on my pap)
................
.......o...
..........bc
i really like they way this ball reacts now my question is theres a power machine on here for sale with these specs - 15lbs 2oz pin 1"to 1 1/2" top wt 3 1/4oz, what layout should/could i put on this power machine to get it to react stronger than the machine but basically be able to play the same type of shot.

a couple more questions what are the advantages/disadvantages to longer and shorter pin lengths? can you get a ball with a short pin to react the same as
a ball with a long pin?

Hey Paul,

Is the pin over middle finger on your Machine or is it over bridge? If it's over mid, that's a fairly weak layout. The Power is stronger by nature compared to the Machine.

Pin out balls will go longer compared to pin in balls. No true advantage or disadvantage, simply what you want or need a ball reaction to be. For more length, a pin out would be recommended and for earlier read, a pin in would be recommended.

Depending on how the pin out ball is laid out. Typically again, the pin in ball will roll sooner but we can alter surface to help create length as well. Also if the cores are asymmetrical in shape, we have more flexibility in producing a "reaction shape".

hey thanks for the help tenpinspro, yeah its pin over the middle finger, the ball plays close to my arsenal artillary but with a more backend, the artillary reads alot earlier but for the most part i can play the same line with them on a house shot.

Hey Paul, (you're very welcome)

I'd go with the pin under bridge and mb about 2-3 inches right and down from thumb. This is a little tough without knowing your pap but this layout should offer you a much stronger reaction compared to your other pieces and offer you more separation between them as well.

I see you're in Modesto, what house do you bowl in? McHenry or Yosemite? I've been taking a squad every year to the Peach on July 4th weekend (for the last 9-10 yrs). I'm located in Alameda bud...small world.

ok im going to go ahead and get it and try out your drill suggestion, thanks

my driller says im a low tracker my pap is only 3 1/2 over and 1/4 up.

i have bowled league at both mchenry and yosemite but currently bowling two leagues at yosemite. i havnt bowled the peach tournement yet but i will this year for sure.

yeah it is a small world, alameda isnt to far at all ill have to make a trip up there and check out your shop and your center.
