Are you trying to to clean it without changing the original surface prep (or are trying to restore it to OOB finish)? Or do you want to change the surface from it's original condition?
If you want to clean/restore it to OOB condition, use Clean-and-Sheen. It's a cleaner and compound polish. You could also use Clean-and-Dull (nee Tacky), that would clean it without changing the surface, whatever it is (in spite of the name, CnD doesn't dull the ball). A lot of times, though, when you clean a polished (or semi-polished, compound) ball, you want to put some of the polish back on, so CnS would be a better choice.
